This page is almost entirely Troper Tales. That is not its purpose, its purpose is for Real Life examples of CMOF's (or Funny Moments, forks or spoons I don't care). I don't have the time or the savvy to do it myself, but maybe a better troper than I could find the time to move the personal examples to Troper Tales. Whoever is kind enough to do this, I ask them to maybe leave a notice across the top stating that personal examples are for Troper Tales? It would hopefully stop people who take the time to read an article before editing it from posting more personal examples.

Cut

The argument for having Real Life examples on the individual trope pages is that they get to show how the trope is actually Truth in Television or conversely how Art Imitates Life. They actually have little to do with the trope otherwise. They don't count for actual examples when you are trying to launch a page and an overbearing in size Real Life folder is considered a bad thing.

Now some of the subjective tropes can still have that Truth in Television element but there is a problem in both having examples for thing that are just "This was funny; this was sad; this was heartwarming; this was awesome." and also for real life sections that get their own page.

When CMOA sport was cut, the issue was related to the cut real life It Just Bugs Me! pages. There are explanations for those on the Just Bugs Me discussion page but in short, these solo pages end up gathering a life of their own and take focus away from the actual trope and give an impression of "we're here to bitch and/or praise". There's been this thing before of "Well praising isn't as toxic as complaining" and we've naturally been set up to prefer the former but they are both as damaging when it comes to losing focus and believe me it happens. In a really long Real Life folder on a page it looks like people have forgotten the original trope as you go down.

Also, we're moving more towards treating those ill defined subjectives as what they've actually become - looking at works through a whole new filter (normally rose tinted) and are moving towards a namespace based solution. The real life pages are The Artifact of starting with individual pages with bloated real life folders but if we'd started with the solution then we would not have had them. It's all part of moving towards a more consistent organisation.

At TV Tropes, Real Life is treated as if it was just another Fantasy Genre. Subjectivity may be a problem, but any problem with subjectivity is not going to be limited to the Real Life sections.

I am against the cutting of this trope.

The 'Real Life' solo pages (such as Funny, Heartwarming, etc) are some of the most enjoyable to read pages on the wiki (except for the Nightmare Fuel ones). That being said I can agree, due to being 'Real Life' they are not media related. I can also agree that an overcrowded 'In Real Life' folder would be distracting, though I personally have yet to see one longer than any given Anime folder.

This page, as well as the others that unlike CMOA have escaped being purged, should be salvaged. They should, however, take a cue from the WW 2 page and exist as news/history related pages. It seems as though almost half of this current page is full of Troper Tales, which while being Real Life have their own section of the site. Here they make the page read poorly. In my opinion the personal 'this happened to me' entries should be moved to their respective Troper Tales pages.

The Real Life sections are entertaining to read and do no harm to the wiki, they should not be deleted, only edited. It could be argued that we could find lists of awesome/sad/heartwarming things on some other site, but these pages, at their best, not only link to those other sites but are more readily available and easier to find.
