Starting to move, this will take a while, especially the first section... I think I'll start by the last one.

The link for the recommendation for GERANIUM is broken, can someone find a new one?

There's a copy here, but it's low quality and the site is definitely NSFW.

Hi.

Anyway, Fanficrec page is supposed to be a list of the very best quality stories that are recommended for everyone. It has to be maintained and cleaned up sometimes. In view of recent micro edit war, I think it’s time to do a cleanup of “Written Fics” section.

I vote for these entries to be removed:

“Darkness of Illusion”– it’s pretty meh and shallow. Not for this page.

“I Negative Bullet” – it’s bad, objectively bad. Maybe it fits for So Bad, It's Good category, but not for this page.

“Touhou Chronicles” – the style makes it unreadable for me. Maybe it’s not a bad story in itself (can’t tell, never read past the opening chapters), but it is just not a recommended read (as a process).

“The Dirty Secret Set Free” – walls of text.

“Undying Gensokyo” – it is badly written and contains extreme canon defilement. It should not be on the page.

So, discuss. No flames please, just coherent opinions and votes for and against. The discussion is up for a week, on November 28 it ends and I execute the collective decision.

Sorry, but as far as my knowledge goes that is completely wrong. You cannot remove anyone else's Fan Fic Recommendation, just like one cannot remove another's Moment Of Awesome. Sending this discussion to the mods for clarification.

I already asked them. The mods said no, you cannot remove someone else's recommendation.

If you don't like them, then that is what reviews are for. Leave a review stating what you don't like but please try and make it substantive. If a troper thinks others should read it, that is all that we've ever needed for it to earn a place on a rec's page.

I'm...a bit offended at the proposition to remove other troper's recommendations. Who's to say that your opinion (or any other troper's opinion, for that matter) should overpower any of our recommendations? That's not to say that we should allow blatantly horrific works (akin to My Immortal) to receive this page's honor. Defining the boundary, in this instance, might pose a problem in the future (as evidenced by some opinions expressed concerning Negative Bullet).

Reposted from Ask The Tropers. Thank you, Camacan for clearing this up.

"These recommendations are wholly subjective. There are few valid reasons to pull an entry on these special pages. These reasons include:

  • No troper name with the entry. *
  • Totally incorrect or missing formatting.
  • Dramatic demonstrable total factual accuracy failure — really not so likely in practice. A detailed edit reason would be needed.

We don't need a second troper to vouch for a rec. I can't see why an author recommending their own work is unacceptable if they identify themselves as such. If an entry is really an exercise in vitriol, particularly a personal attack on the author that could be worth a mod flag. Edit reasons must be civil. Approach all deletions on the wiki with caution."

With that said, I believe this issue is closed. There will be no removals for the above listed reasons.
