Given they were able to bend the metallic poison into Korra, it's not an example. It was shown to be possible, it's seeming contradiction of established rules is a separate problem.
Why would the first be? We see Metalbenders metalbend the poison into her. It's not a Deus ex Machina that someone metalbends it out of her. That's just a logical progression.
Second one is, though. While "energy bending" is sort of a thing, it's never been done at such a scale or with this kind of energy. It's a new ability that appears to resolve an unresolvable situation.

I don't think Season 3 counts, though - when it says it's a continuity error, are they referring to how Toph first discovered metal-bending by sensing the fragments of earth in the metal? Are we certain that would be a limitation here?
