For the sake of avoiding spoilers in the folder names, why not group Titan Raiden, Kitana, and Kung Lao, under a folder simply labelled "Titans"? Given their brief appearances and minor roles I doubt any of them will have enough tropes to justify a dedicated folder.
Hide / Show RepliesAnyone object to merging the Damashi folder with the Final Boss folder and retitling it "Shang Tsung's Benefactor"?
Aren't Liu Kang and Geras the same ones from 11? Why not have those two redirect?
Character Specific Page cleanup Hide / Show RepliesYeah, they should be redirects. It makes no sense for those two to made be separate from their "counterparts" when they are the exact same characters.
Geras isn't the same one from MK 11
As he explicitly states, New Era Geras was made by Liu Kang, not Kronika, making him a new distinct entity
As for Liu Kang, while he is the same one from MK 11, the tropes applying to him and his story role in MK 1 are completely different A link will probably be set up at some point labeled "For tropes pertaining to his MK 11 appearance click here", but his character folder should stay
Remember, the New Era is being divided into it's own character pages seperate from the rest, this includes stuff like Liu Kang as relating to his New Era appearances going forward
Edited by CrimsonOddballNope, Geras’ bio confirms that this is still the same Geras from MK 11, just reconstructed by Liu Kang, and that he still has all of his memories from not just the previous timeline but also all timelines that have come before.
Edited by CorvusIXI'm aware of Geras' bio, but it appears we interpret what "reconstruction" implies differently
As I see it (considering Geras outright says that Liu Kang made him in his image) this is a new Geras, but built and patterned after his predecessor. Reconstructed in the same way a bridge is reconstructed.
After all, the original Geras was never destroyed or broken apart because his whole thing is that he can't be permanently harmed by normal means, he'll just rewind to an undamaged state. If Liu Kang had to "rebuild" him, then Geras must have been erased like everyone else when history restarted
And I think his memories of the previous timelines just comes from the fact that he's a fixed point in time and his connection to the hourglass
Edited by CrimsonOddballI still disagree with Liu Kang. Fire God Liu Kang feels too redundant for a separate character folder. Geras I can let slide, but what would "this" Liu Kang character folder cover that the "subpage" Liu Kang would already do? You still have to at least mention 11 and Aftermath, but that's covering old ground. At least with Shang Tsung he does have two different versions.
Honestly how Fire God Liu Kang came to muddle it further. If we're really insistent he should get a folder, his "introduction" is 11, not 1. His ascension started with the revenant version of himself, and subsequently merged the other Liu Kang and Raiden's power, thanks to how godhood interacts with time travel in this series.
Since this page is being changed to having new pages for the New Era characters, separate from the character pages for the past games, I think that should be explained at the top of the page, as to show new readers that this is for New Era characters only and that if they want to read about their past incarnations, they should go to the redirects at the top.
I'm confused. What's all this restructuring happening and who decided on it?
Character Specific Page cleanup Hide / Show RepliesI think it was decided in a ATT thread here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=127059&type=att#comment-374949
Given how radically different the new incarnations of virtually every single returning character are I don't think the current approach of linking returning characters to their old pages and updating their images and tropes is a good idea
I really think we should start new folders for their New Era incarnations and trope from scratch like they're entirely new characters, because they basically are
Just updating pages for characters like Mileena or Tanya or Kenshi is going to get very confusing real fast because they all new backstories personalities and archetypes now
A case could even be made for characters like Fire God Liu Kang, since even he isn't quite the same as his MK 11 appearance (apparent lack of lightning powers, different story role and characterization, etc)
Edited by CrimsonOddball Hide / Show RepliesI thought long before this game was announced to split the character pages into their original timeline selves and their (then) new timeline selves. While there are overlapping tropes, there are many more that are exclusive to a certain timeline.
For example, Liu Kang could have these four folders:
- In general: tropes spanning across all/multiple timelines
- Midway timeline: tropes spanning from the Midway games (including MK vs. DC and Midway spinoffs)
- Netherrealm original timeline: tropes spanning from 9 to 11
- Netherrealm new timeline: tropes spanning from this game onwards
Looks like the time has come. However I'd suggest to wait until the game is released.
Yeah I’m supportive of new folders for the new timeline. The overlap is already getting confusing.
Does this page still need to be split, considering half of the characters from this game now have their own pages? Not like it was that big to begin with, I mean, there were only 10 characters, and the collapsing headers certainly helped keep things tidy.
One Nation Under WiFiCan we update Liu Kang's and Raiden's images as well?
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"
Sareena is the only one that doesn't have a description of who she is before her tropes. Feel like someone should fix that.
