Is Jane really a Reasonable Authority Figure? On reading the trope carefully, it seems to be about how willing the authority figure is to listen to their subordinates instead of completely blocking them out without good reason (the opposite of Head-in-the-Sand Management), instead of the reasonableness/temperance of that leader's actions. Jane is probably an example of this trope, but I'd think a lot of the ER leaders would be, making it kind of redundant.
Hide / Show RepliesIt's not clear in the round entries definitely, but she's shown to be ((Likely due to the Rogues' small numbers)) a leader who does actually prefer to listen to the men and play to their strengths whereas most of the ER leaders are treating theirs in a more hands-off manner and are generally more authorative in their leading style:
Similar questions such as these were posed to the Rogues post R-3 specifically Joshua, Mathis and Theodore Partridge to gage her team's abilities personally and playing to them.
She's also shown to be more approachable when it comes to discussion, I believe—-I can't really imagine anyone sitting down to chat with Frank, Rommel or Dao at this level.
Thoughts?
Edited by oniwanbashuAgain, the Reasonable Authority Figure trope page states that it's the opposite of Head-in-the-Sand Management - if someone approached Roy and/or Dao with the sort of situation that is presented on the tropes page, I think they're no less likely to listen than Jane is.
It's not really about being approachable (in fact the tropes page gives 'hard to approach' as the very first example of a possible story-made obstacle that prevents the RAF from solving everything immediately), it's about... well, listening to common sense, really! Which all three bigshots are equally good at (and bad at, in certain situations. XD)
Besides, as you say, Jane's approachability is due to the small size of the Rogues - I'd certainly not have imagined that she could be that easily approached pre-defection, and if you put Roy or Dao in Jane's position then I think they'd be just as open to discussion and just as hands-on.
Removed from main page, as there is a cleanup effort on OlympicSwimmer underway and I am not sure what to do with this entry:
