Does Ash’s Pikachu qualify as character derailment? Starting in Generation VII his chaarctization seems to have reverted back to his rude abrasive side from Gen 1. I feel the absolute Nadir is in Journies where he tries to run away after feeling neglected when: 1) Pikachu never had a problem with Ash’s other baby Pokemkn 2) Pikachu’s defying characteristics are his love of Ketchup and loyalty to Ash

Homura Akemi from Rebellion has been removed twice since Character Derailment is not about unpopular, drastic changes (theoretically, one could be derailed into a better received characterization), it's about unexplained, drastic changes. The whole point of Rebellion was to explain the change, whether fans like it or not is irrelevant to this trope. Arguments can be made against how well it's done, but that's covered under Shocking Swerve. Don't add her back without discussing it here.
