As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
openEditing With Folders
I was thinking: "What if separating a page into folders allowed you to open and close folders on an EDIT page?". My point is that some of us would find it useful to be able to edit LONG articles with a lot less scrolling, particularly those who don't know about CTRL+F (CMD+F on Mac) or don't even have access to it. In other words, folder controls would open and close folders in edit mode, and folders themselves could have arrows next to them like with folders on desktops!
openHiding individual reviews
Sometimes, I wish there was an option to hide a review from being displayed on my end, so that I personally don't have to see it. I regularly visit the Reviews page, and seeing some reviews I don't like being constantly bumped up to the top of the page can get really tiresome at times.
openTLP Highlights When
You Up a draft for Grabs. As some drafts fill up, you're not sure which drafts you have grabbed. So, I'm thinking of some sort of highlght or another list or a tag on which drafts you have grabbed. Inspired by this query.
openSubscription to Trope Finder threads or viewing all by user or self
the Trope Finder stream is very active and I am having trouble locating old requests. Is there a way to generate a list of Trope Finder threads based on being created by self? Can't seem to subscribe like with forum threads.
When you hit subscribe it subsyou to the Entire trope finder list intead of the thread you are on. Wish Lost seems similar.
Edited by AxelmaniaopenMake a subpage for Wattpad works
With the rise of Wattpad as a major place to share Original Fiction, and as a Wattpad reader and writer of my own, I'd appreciate it if you made a subpage only for Wattpad works.
openWikipedia-style visual page editor
Exactly What It Says on the Tin. I know it's very far out to ask this from This Very Wiki, but anyone can dream.
open"[Username] Already Exists"
A small feature regarding usernames during registration. To elaborate, I've read a bit of statements from new users whose edit privileges had been suspended because the name, and been stated that they had been around earlier than the new user.
Edited by alnair20aug93openOutdated Mark All As Read Page
Mark All As Read looks rather poor... not only does it use the (somewhat) old logo, but it's pretty empty. Obviously the logo should be changed to the modern one, though I can't come up with anything else.
Edited by Piterpicherclosed Click here to go to the top
There should be a button at the bottom of every page that teleports you to the top. This is really useful in gigantic pages (Trope Overdosed and such) that have not been yet folderized.
closed A "new page" filter for Recent Changes
It would be useful to have filter on Recent Changes that shows only the pages marked with the "New Pages" similar to the "New Accounts" filter so it is easier to chack for spam pages and help with formatting
openLinks to troper pages
The 'related' page for a troper page currently doesn't show any links, even if it is linked somewhere. It would be useful if it did, because then we could find and exterminate any unwanted first-person writing more easily.
openNew tool
I don't think this exists, but the should be a tool where you type in one namespace, and then another, and see how a list of pages that exist in both. It could be useful for both idle amusement and things like finding which pages exist in both creator and trivia namespaces, so we can cutlist them.
openHex code support for colors
It would be cool if we were able to use hex codes to create colors while posting on the forums instead of the limited number of colors we already have.
closed Cafeteria scene in teen movies
Can you add a page dedicated to cafeteria scenes in teen movies? In particular the ones that discuss cliques.
openImage-change warning
I would like it if either changing an image would cause an image-change warning to appear 24 hours minimum before the change, or that any troper should be required to post said warning at least 24 hours before changing it.
openMulti-Filter-o-matic
An option to plug in multiple tropes and have results that match most or all of them. i.e. looking for characters that are big brothers, stoic spectacles, and a bad ass in a nice suit = list of characters kinda like that
openOpen/Close button
More "folder thinking"; there should be an option to stick the folder control on the side of a page with folders. Possibly a profile-menu option like automatically opening all folders, night vision, etc.
openWait... Why is ATT named that? Is there a better name?
Wait... Why is ATT named that? Is there a better name that wouldn't invite as much misuse?
Like, "Ask About the Wiki" or something?
It's kind of annoying when I feel the need to edit a page just to add that horizontal line at the bottom. An easy solution would be to just automatically render it for the reader.
