Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
How exactly is that considered "spamming"? Unless Koveras goes around and spams complaint comments on every draft with a single hat, I don't think complaints in general count as spamming.
I wasn't too sure what term to use. Maybe "dysfunction" would be better!
^ That's even worse. It's derogatory and rude, since you imply that to Koveras.
There are ongoing forum discussions about TLP culture, including the practice of hatting drafts immediately rather than allowing them to mature. Part of this is behavioral and part is the need to refine the coding to discourage that sort of thing. But it's not "spamming".
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"How about "Headscratcher"?
This seems to be about a (common) misconception regarding hatting on TLP. Hats are supposed to mean that you believe that the proposed trope is ready to launch in it's current state, but are commonly misused to say I think that this idea has merit.
Koveras seems to be trying to encourage the first (Correct) use.
^ Which is exactly what I try to do when I'm looking at proposed tropes. If you check my history, I'll bomb right away if the description is severely lacking and they're aren't any examples, I'll hold off if I'm not sure, and if I see solid effort and well put together examples, I'll hat.
So, what's the issue then? Koveras just has higher standards of what they find launchworthy and are being responsible as the sponsor, then, to disapprove of what they consider "premature" hats. It's not a problem at all, it's just them stepping in and saying that they themselves don't think their draft is launchworthy yet. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessIt's their draft. It's their prerogative when it's ready to launch (which is what hats are supposed to signify — not just "I like this trope" but "this trope is ready to launch in its current state"). It's not an attack on you for hatting it either. It's healthier behavior to be hesitant than hasty on the TLP.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, what people said so far. Disapproving of premature hats - and many hats are premature - isn't an issue unless it's entirely incorrect. That's not the case here since the TLP only has 3 examples, which is very much on the short side of things.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThanks to all above for the comments/insight. I appreciate it. It’s a personal issue; try as I might I just cannot make complaining about getting a hat on TLP fit into my thought process. No matter how many times I climbed into my time machine and no matter how many butterflies I stepped on, in every reality I came back to it still made no sense to me. I’ll just have to learn to let it go.
What about launching a draft that isn't ready? Can you understand why someone would complain about that? The problem with bad hats is an extension of that complaint; the draft isn't ready, it shouldn't be on the wiki yet.
It's no different than complaining about the tropes in Needs Wiki Magic Love.

Okay, like I always do before I Ask The Tropers, I'll start off by saying that if it's just me I'll take my lumps, shut by piehole, and go back to my coloring book.
Koveras placed a proposed trope on the launch pad, Futuristic Jet Injector. It's about injecting someone without using a needle. I looked it over, thought there was something there, gave it a hat, and posted a comment.
Shortly thereafter, Koveras posted a reply saying they didn't think it was worthy of a hat yet.
Okay.... now besides the fact that we have a trope launch pad littered with nearly 400 pages of proposed tropes, most of which will not see the light of day, I cannot understand why someone would identify a potential trope, research a potential trope, find examples for a potential trope, write a good description for a potential trope, post it on the launch pad in good format with three examples, and then complain when it gets a hat. Just seeing that made wonder if we've found a way to both go down the rabbit hole and over the rainbow at the same time.
I can understand tropers complaining about stealth bombs, or bombs in general. The launch pad can be a jungle and you have to know the rules going in. But I have never, even back when I was a newbie troper who couldn't edit a page properly without serious help, seen someone complain about getting a hat to their proposed trope. What's the point of even putting it up there if that's the case? The whole point of the launch pad is getting enough hats to launch a trope or sufficient bombs to nuke it.
Okay, shutting up now and going back to my bowl of soggy corn flakes.
