My impression is Strawman is is for straw characters or villains who sole function is to be Hate Sinks representing the wrongness of X. Informed Wrongness is for when it’s done by actual, nuanced, sympathetic characters (eg. protagonists) who the narrative may redeemed of such.

But the lack of a concrete distinction, I looked for one, should be addressed.

I made a thread about it before here, but discussion never really addressed the main issue, which was the lack of notable distinction between the two.
