We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza
A character who ignores another's preferences, but for entirely petty or selfish reasons rather than actually bigoted ones (and not a Discriminate and Switch gag).
For example: Charlie starts undergoing the transition to become Alice. While everyone else is fine with it, Bob consistently refers to Alice by her old name as if she were still a man. Not out of transphobia or hatred, but (in his own words) he has enough trouble remembering his coworkers' names without them changing it just to make life difficult for him. It's then seen that he really didn't single out Alice, he applies this treatment to all coworkers: using a newly-married woman's maiden name instead of her husband's last name, or the birth name of a man who recently converted to Islam and changed his name, etc.
