Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
According to What to Put at the Top of a Page, no: "Quotes do not have potholes in their original medium, and extraneous Blue Links above the trope description just distract the reader. If potholes are not necessary to understand the quote, then they are redundant. If potholes give context that is needed to understand the quote, then the quote does not truly illustrate the trope."
To add onto ^ , linking to things that are directly referenced is fine, e.g. if a character mentions the movie Titanic (1997) by name, it's fine to link to the work page.
I haven't seen any rules about potholing in non-pagetop quotes. I've assumed it's fine.
Edited by TwiddlerKeep in mind what the rule was intended to prevent: the use of [[PotholeMarkup this sort of stuff]] at the top of the page.
Use of {{This Sort|Of Stuff}} is perfectly fine.

I'm seeking a clarification about potholing in quotes.
While potholing quotes is forbidden at the top of the page, are we allowed to pothole them in the examples themselves?
