"the devs add more customization options over time, usually with holiday or general game updates"

I don't think it being done "over time" is significant in any way...

It is significant; the game in question will have relatively modest customization options at launch or later, but then begin to get more absurd and extravagant in order to keep player interest (as reusing holiday items would be considered cheap and lazy). The end result would be customization options being present where they were downplayed or nonexistent before. Sort of like Power Creep and Serial Escalation, but with customization weirdness instead of gameplay or thematic elements.

If a majority agree, does it make it right? If a murderer is acquitted by the masses, is their crime vindicated?

^ Power Creep is significant in that the power will affect gameplay, which is the core of any game.

"Having more customization options" isn't. It's a given with online games that update regularly.

^ Oh hey look, there goes the point.

Game has customization option. Game has holiday events. Prizes from events become more extravagant with each passing year. Players take all of the weird prizes and make themselves Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot in appearance. I don't know how I can spell it out in plainer terms.

Do we have this? I don't care if it's tropeable. I don't care if you think it's insignificant. Do. We. Have. This?

^ I don't think so, beyond Character Customization and Rainbow Pimp Gear.
