Speculation works on "reasonable doubt": namely, it's speculation unless we can reasonably say it will be present in the final work.

With Endgame being a high-profile work, it's hard to draw the line, so I don't blame HighCrate for looking into speculation. My own concern is that HC is drawing the line too high, and their past misinterpretation of the rules doesn't help with that matter.

My problem here is multiple users seem to be adding tropes and one user is cutting them. My understanding is that the point of cleanup threads is that instead of policing a page by yourself over and over, you bring it up in the thread after your first edit and then someone else takes a look so you don't have to worry about your own subjectivity.

I'm not sure this can be solved from the adding tropes side without a lock, because different users keep adding stuff.

And if the issue is deleting stuff, would going to that thread and having me or anyone else asking High Crate to stop deleting things by themselves, and instead the next time they have an issue have someone else take a look solve things? Or would High Crate ignore it and keep policing the Endgame page themselves?

High-profile work + admission of misleading trailers = speculation nightmare.

Locking the page is probably the best bet.

Users are adding speculation, not tropes. Tropes are storytelling conventions that are objectively present. Since we don't have a work, we're only really troping the marketing, and the creators have already admitted that Trailers Always Lie.

^ Users are adding tropes that they believe to be present in the work proper.

The trouble comes from the fact the trailers are intentionally misleading, so we're unsure of what tropes are present. That means there's a high line for speculation.

That's called speculation. Tropes are not opinions.

A trope is a trope. You can't say it's only a half... wait, no that's not it.

You can't say it's not a trope, only that it might not be present.

"I believe that this trope will occur" is not the same thing as "this trope occurs". The former is never acceptable for example writing on our wiki.

Are we all on the same side, at least? To cut the trailer stuff as speculation?

This is what the cleanup thread is for, so I've responded there.
