This was discussed here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=67617&type=att

Aside from the discussion, the CMOA main page says it straight out: "A moment when a character **does** something for which they will be remembered forever, winning for them the eternal loyalty of fans." (Emphasis mine). Just simply existing is not "doing" anything; size alone does not make anyone awesome. Someone being larger than other characters is just a quirk of nature — there's lots of big people out there, so what? That doesn't make it CMOA for either the character or the work. So yes, per the stated definition on CMOA, the character has to actually DO something that's awesome.

Yeah , looks like a valid removal. The defination is an action that is awesome. Existing, is not enough of a reason.

I think the moment could be reinstated if slightly re-written, like so:

  • Thor's appearance in strip 1134, in addition to being a twist, also has a large payoff for Durkon's character arc. In the first appearance of any god interacting with mortals in the comic, Thor summons Durkon to him for a conversation, and surprises Durkon by being so large that Durkon mistakes his leg for a tower. The fact that the God Durkon made great sacrifices to serve, and who sometimes seemed to have abandoned him, knows his name, sympathizes and supports him in his battles, and seems to care about and respect him deeply, is incredibly heartwarming and demonstrates that everything Durkon did had value.

Written like that, it's a Heartwarming moment, not Awesome.

Simply put Thor showing up is not a moment of awesome. We have seen him in action prior . Also as stated, existing in itself not a measure of awesome. Actions taken are defined as a "moment" of awesome. A moment has to occur to count

What Tuvok said. Thor is not doing anything, so it's not a CMOA.

To explain the difference, Legolas in "The Hobbit" stands in his father-the-Elfking's throneroom - nice callback to LOTR, but not an "awesome" moment. Leg is just standing there.

Legolas grabbing a shield to surf down the Helms Deep stairs, shooting orcs as he goes? THAT'S awesome. He's actively doing something that made all us fans go WOAH, a scene that makes you rewind it over and over just to watch its awesomeness all over again. See the difference?
