As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
As an example I just found, Robert A. Heinlein has a list of intentional redlinks for his works which don't have pages yet. But two of those links are blue, because even though Literature.Let There Be Light and Literature.Life Line don't exist, the unrelated Film.Let There Be Light and VideoGame.Lifeline do. It would be helpful to tell at a glance that these Literature pages don't exist.
Edited by HeraldAlberichPurple won't work, that usually signifies a link you've already clicked.
I like red for this. Any link to a disambig page in the main wiki is an error anyway. V Or intentional redlinks. Yes.
Edited by war877^^ Clicked links don't change color on the wiki (except on search pages), though I can see how that would be confusing anyway.
^ Or an intentional redlink, as I said. Keeping those links red would accomplish that purpose, it's true. I still like the idea of another color to signify that the title is in use, but the namespace isn't, or is misspelled.
Sometimes when I'm editing, and I see a name that might or might not have a Creator page, I'll just remove the space between the first and last names and check the color of the resulting link in Preview mode, to see whether I should go back and add a namespace, or just add back the space. Making these links red would force me to change that editing behavior—which I recognize is a very, very minor complaint.
Aside from purple, I suppose another option would be an alternate shade of an existing color, dark blue or dark red for example.
A link to a nonexistent page that shares a title with a page in a different namespace (for example, NotANamespace.Wiki Word) appears as a normal Blue Link, and leads to a disambiguation page that shows the existing pages with that title. It would be helpful for these links to have a different color. This would help distinguish such things as un-namespaced work pages, typos in preview mode, and links to nonexistent pages for adaptations of works (if, say, a book has a page but The Film of the Book doesn't).
I'm just not sure what that color should be, since we're already using blue, green (in Night Vision), red, and orange. Maybe purple, since it's not quite a Blue Link and not quite a Red Link? Like blue, purple would need a different color (maybe yellow?) in Night Vision, though. Open to suggestions.
