As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site. Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it. Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.

Important things to know:

  • We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
  • Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
  • Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.

I agree with all of these points in all honesty.

This is a perfect fix for it.

Completely agree on the black headers being turned into teal blue. The rest of the suggestion are alright, unless we find something better.

I wrote a userstyle that changes some of the colours around. Any opinions? https://userstyles.org/styles/124078/tvtropes-1-3-wide-and-colorful

It also shrinks the sidebar, prevents Showcase banners from being cut off, fixes the padding issues on Wide Load, and restores a monospace font to the editor.

What about the Tear Jerker, and Heartwarming pages?

^ Tear Jerker will be the same color as the YMMV pages. Heartwarming is part of Sugar Wiki by default.

I think the grey background should be blue too, but yeah i agree. @Prime32 THANK YOU

For Darth Wiki, please have same color scheme as Nightmare Fuel, but please don't have the same font.

No, you can't eat my soul. Stop asking.

^ Actually, I meant to put Darth Wiki there, since Nightmare Fuel is basically an extension of Darth Wiki. I don't really care about the font though.

Tried out Prime32's userstyle. While I feel it's rather incomplete in regards with the other pages, it does have a good idea of what I want the main pages to look like. I particularly like the sky blue colored negative space. I might add that on my list once I can edit it.

I also do like the thinner way the side bars look.

Also, I forgot about the footers. While I think the ones on the Sugar and Darth Wikis are fine, the normal footers should be changed to blue and the YMMV footers to a darker blue.

Most of these suggestions would just revert the colour scheme to the way it was, which I'm not sure is likely to happen.

However, while we're at it, please remove the pink/red highlighting hover effect on Sugar/Darth Wiki links. It's intensely distracting, and tbh belongs with <marquee> in the box of Things That Should Never Have Happened To The Internet.

(In the current colour scheme, Darth Wiki links are also quite hard on the eyes.)

I haven't looked at the new Darth/Sugar Wikis yet, but I'll add something for them to the userstyle sometime in the next few days.

I've finally gotten 'round to checking Prime32's userstyle. It's really nifty looking. I was picturing the headers being teal with the background staying grey, but Prime's color scheme is also pretty good. I wouldn't complain if the site looked like that.

^...What made you think that I was going with teal? Teal would not look good on normal TV Tropes pages.

So I ended up getting that new version done sooner than I expected. It should cover most of the alternate page types now - let me know if there's any I missed.

Not sure if people would agree much with me on this, but a darker negative space seems like it'd be easier on the eyes. When I look up "teal" I get a lot of different shades. Maybe something like this?

EDIT: Started using Prime's Style. It actually looks great in practice. Will be sticking with this from now on, until/unless changes are made to the default.

Closed due to the amount of timelapse. Someone can post another wishlist query for more design changes if they want so current users can vote on a newer updated version.
