there's Thematic Series
Working on cleaning up List Of Shows That Need SummaryThematic Series seems close, but it seemed to me something like the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy is fundamentally different than say the Gundam Franchise because while Hot Fuzz and Shaun Ofthe Dead share creative team members and tone, they aren't conceptually as close as, say Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing.
Edited by NotGrantMorrison I'm totally not Grant MorrisonCan also be The 'Verse when they share a continuity (or are implied to be co-existent timelines, etc)
Edited by Scorpion451But I am talking about a specific type of franchise. Batman for example is a franchise, but almost all adaptations are different versions of Bruce Wayne. As opposed to the Gundam Series where Amuro Ray only appears in the original series and its direct sequels and prequels.

A media franchise where each installment shares common elements, visual motifs or themes, but do not form one single continuity (Though there often will be occasional crossovers) and arent different versions or adaptations of the same characters For example
- The Gun Dam series
- The Pre Cure series
- The Ultra Series
- Super Sentai
- Kamen Rider
