Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
You could always send them a general notifier or a PM.
Although it's hard to understand your predicament without examples.
My Fanfiction.net Page My DeviantArt PageThis is the edit I encountered today, which changed all five usages of "they" to "the Doctor." I decided to dig back further and found this pair of edits that changed "if they're male/female" to "this is a male" and "if female." A third example here changes "that they are" to "that the character is."
Is this the most pressing issue to bring up? Probably not. But these edits feel wonk-ish to me since singular "they" has been used for centuries.
Vehicle Based Characterization | Grief Induced Split | Locker MailThe first edit you linked violates basic English; if you mention the subject up front (Alice, Bob, etc.), there's no reason to keep mentioning it in the same sentence or even paragraph. Saying "The Doctor" over and over again is weird.
It's one of those "it's not a problem so why change it" sort of things. To be honest, I would definitely revert the first edit back and send them a PM.
Edited by Arctimon My Fanfiction.net Page My DeviantArt PageIf you're talking about a specific incarnation of the Doctor, I could see the argument for using pronouns specific to that incarnation (e.g. he/him for Eleven, she/her for Thirteen), but if you're talking about the character as a whole, 'they' seems appropriate enough. Sounds like a wonk to me.
I serve at the pleasure of President Pritchart. We have a general thread for notifiers here since you asked if there was a thread.
Macron's notesIn addition the decision in this thread was to use 'they/them' for a Time Lord in general and specific gendered pronouns for each incarnation. They can be invited to the thread to clarify.
I wrote them via general notifier about the DW edits and that singular "they" was fine, only to be messaged back that it's not. Definitely a wonk.
Vehicle Based Characterization | Grief Induced Split | Locker MailThe second edit you linked isn't that big of a deal, because the change is rather minor in the grand scheme of things. The other edits are definitely more noticeable and were not needed.
EDIT: I just noticed that someone else changed the "that character" out in the third edit, so that one doesn't seem as pressing any longer.
EDIT 2: Is there a specific post that we can link to from the Character Identity thread in case the edit gets reverted?
Edited by Arctimon My Fanfiction.net Page My DeviantArt Page^ Ope, I just reverted the edit citing this thread. But it would be good to have a link to the DW decision anyway.
Vehicle Based Characterization | Grief Induced Split | Locker MailThe OP of that thread has a list of resolved discussions and were the discussion of a particular character. In this it's general policy so a specific post isn't needed. It's in the first bullet as general policy on the OP so they can't miss it
Edited by MacronNotes Macron's notesAhh, got it. Didn't see the dropdown menu up top.

I'm wondering about sending a notifier to a troper who seems to have a wonk about singular "they." They reword things to remove it, no matter how clunky the resulting entry is. However, their changes aren't ungrammatical, so I'm not sure a grammar notifier is the move.
Is there some kind of forum thread where questions like this could be posed? I don't want to clutter up ATT.
