Damn... I misclicked, I was sure I am in the Trope Finder.
Sorry!
Is there any trope where:
- Characters plan something
- The plan is disrupted one way or another, in a truly dramatic fashion
- Yet their original goal is still achieved, despite the fact the plan itself failed entirely
My go-to example would be AlienĀ³, it's director's cut to be precise, where the elaborate (and pretty solid) plan to capture the xenomorph goes sideways when the xenomorph attacks out of the blue and triggers a massive fire by pure chance, badly wounding half of the characters... but in the end the creature is still sealed off in a toxic waste-disposal unit, just as the whole plan originally anticipated.
