Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I have seen that elsewhere, especially in the Book Of Life referring to Jorge R Gutierrez as just Jorge. I hate it frankly, but I am NOT a mod and what they say goes.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.^ I’m confused by your response — sorry if I’m missing something. I have no idea if mods on this site are okay with this or not. Is there a standard practice for this one way or the other? Or is this the sort of thing where if it gets used, that takes precedence, like Oxford comma usage?
There's not a set procedure for doing so that I'm aware of.
I'm inclined to err on the side of "not acting like we are besties with the author" myself.
As a general bit of advice, we're told not to make assumptions, to explain things that might not be familiar to those who are just starting to get acquainted with a particular work.
I often take that to mean that acronyms need to be expanded or people are going to be confused. In this particular case, people might be confused, thinking that Rick is a character in the webcomic rather than the author.
I would go ahead and change it to last name or full name. If you get reverted, don't get into an edit war, refer them to this discussion.
Thanks, all. I think I can rework these examples to exclude the author name and will do so. Good to know I have support for doing this.
Have been doing some off and on editing and clean up on the Housepets! pages, and ran across something some of the tropers have been doing there. Specifically, the webcomic’s author is being referred to in some of the trope examples by first name. Example:
This might be fine to do, but it’s the only set of pages where I’ve run across this practice. In other non-TV Tropes situations, it may be considered more appropriate to use the author’s last name, the term “the author,” or to avoid mention altogether by saying “The comic seems to be introducing…”
Is there a standard accepted procedure for this sort of thing here?
Thanks!
