Two years later, but yeah, I think Lisitsa is very well known.

First time here and I have this question: anyone know the name of the Franz Liszt piece he did that sounded like something for weddings that he made because of his failed attempt to marry Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein? I caught it on the radio while doing an errand but I didn't get the name in time to memorize it.

[up] You're probably looking for Festklänge, the seventh of Liszt's symphonic poems.

Just came across this great performance of Maurice Durufle's Requiem.

Kinda sad, regretful musing.

It's a real shame when Pavarotti was active, I was too uncultured to truly appreciate the sheer wonder that this man was. If I could go back in time, I would love to hear his live performance at least once.

Mahler's Symphony No. 5 was probably the first classical piece I actually bought on CD. Still something I really enjoy.

In terms of more modern stuff - Philip Glass is great (I've now seen Satyagraha and Akhnaten live), I have a soft spot for John Adams' Nixon in China, and I've just started listening to some of Julia Wolfe's stuff, which is... powerful.
