I don't really have any opinions on Koakuma, really. Other than I guess she's pretty cute? I do think that the mischievous/loyal personalities aren't necessarily in conflict with each other though. Given how Patchouli usually has her nose in a book, I can imagine it might be hard for her to keep an eye on lil' Koakuma all the time, allowing her to get into all sorts of mischief... until Patchy catches her and puts her back to work! Hmm, how did she end up subservient to Patchy, anyway? Maybe Patchy summoned her from Hell or wherever demons in Gensokyo come from to help keep the library tidy so Patchy could spend more time studying and things. And every proper magician has to have a familiar, you know. Unless you're like Marisa and you just don't care about being all proper.

Koa is cute. That's really all there is to say about her. Fanon hasn't even agreed that she's an individual, like it has with Dai-chan.
I've seen mature and intelligent Koa, child-like Koa, Shrinking Violet Koa, and so on. There's a general trend towards her being quiet, but that's kind of assumed when you work in a library.

Koakuma could be Patchouli's familiar. That's proof of Patchy's magic power that she can have such a powerful familiar.

Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I'm fond of the familiar idea, myself.
Koa's usually considered to be pretty weak. Her being Patchouli's familiar wouldn't really mean much.
The circle that did "Because Cirno-chan is the Strongest" also did a doujin about Koa titled Happiness. It's... a bit dark.
...
O_o
well... that's one way of looking at it, I guess...
The familiar thing makes sense to me. I don't think it would anything to be proud of though, nor would Patchouli be proud of her. She probably gets treated as a tool, although that particular kind of enlightened tool use where the owner realizes that overworking them is counterproductive.
As for her personality, I tend to lean towards canon in general, so she should be mischievous. That said, if she's bound as Patchouli's servant in that huge library, she probably doesn't have time to be mischievous. Maybe she does the kind of mischief where she does exactly what you say but not in the way you actually meant (Literal Genie). I'm just making stuff up now though.
By strong I meant that she was a demon capable of using spellcards and not just a sort of magical animal. ^ makes a lot of sense, though.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I vote for Tenshi or Nitori next.
Can we have Mystia for the next underused character? I like her.
Anyways, there's really nothing to say about Koakuma. Your "never used" category is turning out to be distressingly accurate, with anything they appear in apparently being notable enough to change the discussion's direction, simply because they're not used anywhere. Koa's got it even worse since she doesn't even have a cannon appearance to go off of.
Your funny quote here! (Maybe)Man, there's a lot of characters for whom there's just nothing to talk about. And it sucks because quite a few of them are really neat characters.
WHO IS THIS LOSERAye... poor Koa-chan... Q_Q
? If Koa had spell-cards she'd have a name.
Anyway, I repeat my request for Mystia next.
WELL.
On my quest for Koakuma, I have found three yuri doujins!
The first one had... no plot. It did have hot spring, but that's neither here nor there.
The second one had Koa as a demon of the book-possessing kind, who turned out to have been lurking around unnoticed in the library when Patchouli was first invited. Koa was given to her as a helper, and it turns out that she's quite competent at it because she memorized the location of every single book available. However, the library is so large that fetching a single book can take half an hour. Koa does have the ability to instantly teleport any book into her hand, but being a devil, she can't use that power for anyone else's advantage unless she forms a pact with them and makingthepactinvolveslotsofslobberywetsexualintercoursebutANYWAY. Uh. Koakuma likes Patchouli because of the way she reads books. It ended with a 4koma about how Patchouli gets the |:< face while reading and it doesn't leave very quickly even when she's looking up to thank Sakuya for the tea and Koakuma really loves that face and stuff and I think that's kinda cute.
The other doujin did, in fact, not involve sex, and was drawn in a Soul Eater knock-off style, which was really interesting. In this one, Koa is a devil who was orphaned in a "witch-hunt" and picked up by Patchouli, and the story ends up being about her attempts to keep an orphaned fuzzball in the mansion despite the No Pets rule. Pretty good read, notable for the character redesigns.
So, what's her personality?
...
She's cute.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan let me think about this for a while.
PS: I haven't read the "Happiness" doujin yet, but I don't think that's the same group that wrote the Cirno one - for one, it's not listed on the page, and I'm pretty sure the author said that she wanted to write a story like those of Asatsuki Dou.

No, the Touhou wiki is just bad about archiving WoY's releases. As you can see "Because Cirno-chan is the Strongest" was by Asatsuki Dou.
Oh! That means that this is a doujin that I'll want to read soon! Also, a doujin that I won't want to read before going to bed lest I lay awake all night.
So, Marisa! Ever since I wrote about her back there, I've been growing fonder of the IOSYS version of Marisa. You can hear her speak at the beginning of and during this song about Sanae (along with duckbill Nitori) or this story about Cirno. Or singing in this strangely sinister metal remix of her theme.
What I like about it is that she sounds like a girl lowering her voice to sound like a guy... in other words, like a typical male shonen hero!
Anyone have any thoughts or comments? I kinda want to have some more stuff to work with for ol' Mari, but I guess it's time to move on today...
I believe I've said everything I want to say.
I've said everything on the subject that I intend to.
Actually! I'd like to nominate Kogasa as the next topic of discussion.
^^^^ Yeah, I love that voice for her as well. Too bad the VA isn't a very good actor (she overdoes it some times), but it's so wonderfully masculine.
...I've got nothing more, I think. Though, I just gotta add that Marisa is one of the few character where we get to know about her family (no names). Apparently, they run a magic shop in the Human Village.

Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I'd assume Reimu's parents probably live in the village as well.
edited 17th Feb '10 10:07:57 AM by Zudak
Really? I'd assume Reimu's parents would be dead or missing; it seems odd that they wouldn't be involved in at least training her.
Feh, the dead/missing parents thing is old hat.
Haha, I thought I actually joked about that. Guess I didn't end up writing it after all.
One of the things I like about Because Cirno-chan is the Strongest... is that it even explains something like how Daiyousei got her name. How imaginative can it be when it's Cirno who came up with it? Wonder what that says about Patchouli...
Oh yeah, I have to add. I hope you guys realize that "UU" counts as a lower tier. As in, you don't have to necessarily pick NU peeps for the lower-tier discussions! In fact, you don't have to just vote for one character, too. Just throw all the dudettes at me you're excitedly waiting to discuss and I'll keep a tally or something!
Also, yay, Zudak! =D
