I think if you look at previous stage one bosses, they were all kind of silly.

Minoriko is too silly to be taken seriously but too serious to be silly. Plus, in a game where you fight five gods, a harvest god doesn't stand out.

Technically six gods.

Are you counting Sanae? If thats the one I missed, I would make it five and a half.

It depends on how seriously you take her claim of godhood, of course.

The distinction is a bit blurred sometimes.

^^^^^ I'll give you Rumia and Wriggle (and Cirno if we include Mid-bosses), but Letty doesn't exactly have anything silly. Of course, in Letty's case, she has Cirno to be a big sister figure to in fanon.

She has her big ole hitbox. But what I was going by was her dialogue with the players. Its simply much sillier and bantery than Minoriko's in my opinion.

Edit: That picture reminded me of something. Minoriko is portrayed going around barefoot. Clearly, she likes to feel the soil between her toes. Shizuha is portrayed with shoes. Maybe she likes the crunch of dry leaves?

Finally someone's at least getting a thought that's somewhat in the direction of where I've been standing in this discussion the entire time waiting for someone to notice.

I must be watching fan materials from a different Touhou fandom than you guys, because I think the Aki sisters are hilarious. Sure, they're such ButtMonkeys that there's actually a meme dedicated to how unpopular they are despite not being anywhere near the least popular in the series, but that's the point. The Aki sisters have unlikable personality traits so you can laugh at them when everybody and their sister beats up on, abuses or just plain ignores them. They are among the funniest Butt Monkey characters I've ever seen.

To list some series I can think of, there's:

• Tag Team Dream. Feeling overly aggressive and massively in denial about her Power Level, Minoriko signs them up for a tournament featuring the titans of the touhou cast, then spends the remainder of the series before the first round being scared shitless that they're gonna get killed and failing hilariously at training or coming up with a plan or gimmick ("Bear claws!" "Why would you even think of that?"). They were only even allowed in so Yukari could give her pets an easy win in the first round to sate their egos. They then get beat up in the preliminary "round" of the tournament, during which nobody else save Koakuma even gets scratched. Then Nazrin steals all their food, and because they've been doing a crappy job guaranteeing the harvest they're scared to ask the villagers for help, so they're forced to work for Yukari as requisite-girls-in-skimpy-clothing-at-a-wrestling-match-for-audience-appeal. All around hilarious.
• That box story: 'Nough said.
• Four Season's House: They've got it so bad half of their own "family" members don't acknowledge that they're two separate people, and they have to share a desk at school.
• This Life of Maid. I don't remember if they appear anywhere else in that series, btu if they do I guarantee it's the same thing (I think there's one where Yuyuko eats all their food, I'm not sure though).
• The entire "The Aki sisters are original characters" joke/meme.
• Many more I'm forgetting about.

They get it bad in Tag Dream. Including thinking that rope bondage is a training technique because they saw Reisen doing it on Eirin's orders and then they bork up copying the bondage so bad that Hina thinks they're trying to hang themselves.

• One more series which uses Minoriko as the butt of a series of jokes, though at least they're not really abusing her.

I may be German, but the Schadenfreude is all yours.

Normally I feel bad for series Butt Monkeys and get annoyed with the series for using them, but as I said, for some reason with the Aki sisters it just works.

I have to wonder, when Winter comes around are they all like, "Ah, crap. Letty's here to steal our thunder!" or is it "Whoo-hoo! Finally Letty's here! Vacation time!"

Anything that has the Aki sisters looking like fun tomboys (and Letty in a nice bikini) is fine with me.

I think they are like Letty. They're upset that their time of the year is over but understand that it has to be like that.

It makes me wonder what they were thinking in PCB.

Well, keep in mind that PCB was an overly-long winter, and winter comes after fall, so it'd have to last 3/4ths of a year to even begin cutting into their time.

Most aproppriate Halloween costumes ever.

Do they have Halloween in Gensoyoko?

I'm just wondering if, when the winter started dragging, they tried to confront Letty to make sure she wasn't HOSTILE TAKEOVERING.

Cause, I imagine they'd be on friendly enough terms with Lily White. She's in charge when the stuff that Minoriko gets mad props for gets planted in the first place.
