^Pretty much.

And it's always power levels because you always got to bring that "They don't have to be weaker argument around". Also the limits of Fantasy Haven are already set in stone, it's the manifestation of Reimu's natural ability of flotation in spell card form, the only difference is that it has a time limit to be fair because otherwise she could just shoot you indefinitely from safety in non-existence, and this is her basic ability so I'd say that counts as "invincible".

Yeah, it does. I thought you were talking about Remilia, since Chagen mentioned Remilia and not Reimu.

Actually I find weaker characters interesting because I like to see seemingly useless powers used in interesting ways.

Weaker characters would be interesting because if you think about it, even stage one and two bosses are notable people in Gensokyo.  *

What about the night sparrows that aren't Mystia or the fairies even weaker than Daiyousei. In a land where everyone is an overpowered monster, how do they interact and live?

There's a whole culture out there that Marisa and Reimu blow right over on their way to explode the latest troublemaker.

Manipulation of flavor has a lot of potential for Mundane Utility. I know I'd find it useful. Considering Gensokyo, though, I kinda wonder how it's supposed to manifest as danmaku...

Also, status update: The plot, personality, powers part of Shinkusu is basically done, so all I need to work on is appearance. I'm dead tired right now, so it won't be done tonight most likely. Expect it sometime possibly late tomorrow.

EDIT: Better idea, get tired out from daily stress and barely finish anything! Whooo!

I'm starting to think these long delays are detrimental to my characters.

Proposal: In the future, we might have a special poll where we can put small groups of characters together. A character is revealed by their interactions after all, so I think our conversations would have been more interesting if the creators could have brought in one or two surrounding characters.

For instance, we might have learned more about Xenic Dream if that incorporeal shaman dude had come up along with Amber. We could have experienced the contrast between Kusari and Tenshou, or directly explored the relationship between Yamako and Natsumi. I would have loved to put forward Ranpoteza and Mangojari together.

What do you think?

Technically, no one's stopping you from doing such in a regular poll, especially if they're a deliberate ensemble, like, for canon, the Prismrivers or the Three Fairies.

That SO SECRET EX-boss I have planned is such a thing, being a duet.

Technically not, but assuming the limit on length stays the same in these instances it seems somewhat unfeasible.

Also, it would make the polls kind of lopsided. Not that having multiple characters is necessarily an advantage, but you know what I mean.

Really, I think it's like a smaller-scale version of your game-concept idea.

Title: The Great Mansion Fairy // The Blowing Midnight Wind

Name: Shinkusu

Name Etomolgy: None, really. It's meant to be a promeanteau or however that's spelled of the Japanese works for Crimson and New Moon, but I'm sure it wouldn't come out as such in actual Japanese.

  • Theme Song: The Fairy Lost on a New Crimson Moon // Guiding Breeze of the Fairies
  • Stage Music: Eye of the Mansion
  • Pre-Boss Music: Crimson February

Shinkusu, the Stage 2 boss of the to-be-named SDM game, along with the aforementioned to-be-named fighting game to end the "mini-series" mentioned earlier(Yamako's Game, Natsune's Game, Kagamichi's Fighter, Adela's Game and Eo XD IIRC are all of them, w/ a Kusari Supplemental).

While mostly average in terms of strength for a fairy, but is an oddity in terms of personality among them: She puts heavy emphasis on grace, elegance and calmness. Because of this, she admires the personality of her immediete boss Sakuya Izayoi. Also because of this, she has developed a supreme work effort: Although barely stronger than a normal fairy in base strength, her training alone merits her a place as a Stage 2 boss.

She frequents Patchouli's library and tries to get most of her work done there. She likes to read various books while Patchouli is gone or not paying attention and has used them to learn rudimentary magic skills. We'll get to that later.

But yes, before we get into that kind of stuff, the plot she's most involved in...

The events leading up to it are twofold. First, Muryo(A character to be maybe eventully seen from Yamako's game), a fairy who considers Cirno basically amazing and thinks fairies can be amazing because of it, chats with Shinkusu a little before she's thrown out. Thus, the initial idea is planted inside Shinkusu's little head: "Why are us fairies working in this mansion for nothing, and generally being treated kinda bad too?"

Despite the thoughts brewing in her head, she dismissed the idea initially as infeasible anyway: Given the strength of people from the SDM like Remilia, Sakuya and Patchouli, not counting Flandre in even, such a suggestion as to NOT be getting free labor from the admittedly none-too-good fairies would simply not be possible. Shinkusu once again fell into the line of the other fairy maids.

All of this changes on a later day as Shinkusu works in the Mansion's grand library. As she does, she overhears Marisa and Patchouli having a (mostly) friendly chat. As she overhears, Marisa beings musing to Patchouli about the Extra Stage of Fairy Wars: Specifically, the challenge that Cirno posed to her. Sparked with inspiration, Shinkusu's mind reasons it as this: If the strongest fairy can face somebody like Marisa on equal footing, then one moderate strength fairy and a BUNCH of other fairies could stir up enough to get something done.

Doubling her efforts of study, as much as she can, she bides her time lightly. She speaks of it only in small circles with fairies, keeping details sparse, a vague plan. It will begin where the bubbles first began brewing: The great library of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

Finally, ready, she strikes. Almost all the fairies of the Scarlet Devil Mansion at once begin their campaign, bringing their forces up to arm and setting up in the library. Those who do not join in flee the premises in order to not be partially held accountable and, via accident or deliberation, begin to spread word of the SDM's fairy problem. Like wildfire, fairies everywhere begin to be entertained by these thoughts. And when the news comes that the fairies have driven Patchouli out of her own library, this provides the spark into mass chaos as fairies everywhere begin making an incident, be it for good intentions, the lulz or otherwise.

This would catch the attention of Reimu and even Cirno, who would both end up setting out on their own little "Incident Resolving' tours. People like Remilia would also pop up, to resolve their internal conflicts. These would provide the playables for the game. Reimu and Cirno's path would probably be the "canon" ones, but bits and pieces of others would be canon as well. Characters from every game would probably end up dealing with some fairy related incident near them, perhaps sparking an investigation of their own, including from our games.

The SDM game takes place after this. The SDM itself has had some changes in it's social hierarchy. Specifically, the formal agreement reached between Remilia and Shinkusu after a nice bit of being the everloving crap out of each other: Remilia will gladly give the fairies a bit of pay and housing, but in return Shinkusu simply MUST actually make the fairy maids of the SDM useful, since she wouldn't pay for that level of uselessness. With this agreement, Shinkusu moved into place as the leader of the fairy maids, second-in-command of them only to Sakuya. Although everyone in the mansion, even Meiling, outranks her in terms of overall position, she has a voice in matters and a position of power over the rest of the fairies.

What relation she has to the plot of the SDM game is unknown, as we have no idea the plot to the SDM game! However, I like to imagine that she and Remilia have a kind of witty banter, respectful-yet-antagonistic kinda dialogue in their game.

Her powers...

Shinkusu is a completely average fairy in terms of natural ability, which puts her low on the totem poll, and she has no natural special abilities. However, over time she began learning magic from the books she read while in Patchouli's library, especially those of the elements. Shinkusu originally planned to go multi-elemental, but restrained herself to only one due to feeling she needed to concentrate what power she had entirely into one area.

Because of this, Shinkusu's arsenal consists almost entirely of wind magic. Her favorite form is wind enchantment: Using throwing swords as her weapon, she can use the wind to add a kick to the attack, speed it up, slow it down, returm them to her, boomerang it...ecetera. Her style is still very rough and she's not that great at it, though.

Later on, once she could devote herself fully to all elemental studies...she still continued to focus almost exclusively on wind magic, figuring that focusing on it would be a better use of her small powers.

However, she has decided to expand upon one other aspect of her powers, and that is over metal. She thought of this via the natural leap of her swords being metal. One of the most useful things that she does with this is conjure up the swords that she uses, allowing her an essentially limitless supply of swords. To a lesser extent, she can also use it to change the size or shape of a sword or to summon a non-sword projectile, but she primarily uses it as a conjure-based magic.

What's her personality like?

Well, as I said, Shinkusu is a very different personality from the normal fairy. She has a calculating mind and strives for an aura of calmness and control. She favors grace and elegance and a hard work ethic, unlike the fairies who are fun loving, hard partying and tactless.

She considers herself a bit of a natural born fairy-leader. She has a master grasp of vocabulary, for a fairy at least, and a good grasp of literature, especially magical manuals. She has a bit of a wit about her and after the events of the fighter loves having little quipping battles when she talks with Remilia.

The area I have the least on, aside from her Spellcards, is her appearance.

The first thing first, Shinkusu dyes her hair silver, as mentioned earlier. Silver in the style of Sakuya's hair, of course. I'm debating between her natural hair being blonde(Preferred yet unrealistic) or brown. On both of her hands, she wears pure white gloves. I'm thinking like the kind of ones you see butlers or such wear in artwork. Her wings are done in a style kind of like Daiyousei's, but I'm unsure of the color. I'm leaning towards some kind of green-yellow or something.

Thus ends what I had planned for appearance. Yes, really, that's all I had planned! I didn't have much of an idea for her like this, she was more like a nebulous idea...

Aside from that...I toyed with the idea of giving her solely a black jacket as an upper body outfit, foregoing a shirt entirely, but that kind of semi-nakedness seems a bit sleazy. Right now, I'm toying with the idea of her wearing some kind of more casual version of a black and white maid outfit for her upper body, with a black unbuttoned jacket as well and a white scarf around her neck during the winter/fall. No idea on the lower body, but I'd imagine something simple like a white skirt, or anything resembling shoes. Bouncing between red, gold and maybe some vibrant green or blue for her eye color, heavily leaning towards red or gold. Since she has a maid headress, she qualifies for the requisite hat.

I guess that's all?

Spellcards:

  • Metal-Wind Sign 'Industrial Typhoon'(Fighter-only): Conjures a flurry of swords from under her, rising up into a sky like a large tornado of pointy, sharp swords. The tornado itself does minimal damage and Limit, but has a very large hitstun. After the tornado stops, swords will fall from the sky for a while, dealing good damange and wallslam on hit. Falling swords do not stop if hit while they fall.
  • Metal Sign 'Maid's Creed'(Both games): Creating a flurry of knives with her powers, Shinkusu throws them at the sides of the screen. When they hit the side of the screen, Shinkusu snaps her fingers and they grow from very small knives to the length of a large sword, then bounce off the screen and try to hit the enemy. In the fighter, the knife-swords do more damage after being turned into swords, while in the SDM game they simply have a larger hitbox.
  • 'Construct Additional Swords'(Fighter-only): Not a spellcard per se. Rather, her default 22 B/C. Summons a sword to float by her, which launches at the opponent after sucessfully connecting with a projectile or physical assault. Dissappears after a somewhat short length of time. B version comes out faster and lasts longer, but does less damage. C version comes out slower and doesn't last as long, but deals more damage on hit and is thicker.

Quote Excerpt:

  • Sample, to be worked on dialogue from the fighting game. Remilia's route, Remilia versus Shinkusu.

Misc:

  • The // are to indicate that it changes between games. The first is her default one, from the fighter, and the second from her SDM game appearance.
  • Russia.
  • What's at the eye of the storm? A mansion.
  • Shinkusu chose her name herself.
  • Shinkusu's plot, like Kagamichi's, is based off a somewhat cracky original story I used to have. In it, Cirno was more directly involved in the revolutions, the SDM fairy had no name and Cirno was holding rallies and stuff even. She and Reimu would of clashed some, both helping each other and quipping with each other.
  • Because of this, I like to imagine the canon parts of the fighting game's story ending with Cirno and Reimu sort of wistfully talking over tea about how all the recent effects might shape up the future.
  • I'll probably have more later.

—-

Right now, I have nothing to add here. This is clearly my most disorganized profile EVER, but it's probably not my worst. Sorry about a lack of Spellcards or such, I'll have that up ASAP. But I wanted to put her up without even more delay.

I'd kinda like to imagine that she still has a bit of her fairy nature in her personality. Like, after a day and a half's worth of hard work, she still likes to have a bit of fun. Unlike most fairies' idea of fun, her preferred activities are more structured, scheduled, and/or somewhat low-key, but still quite enjoyable.

I gotta wonder (and admire, I guess) how she sneaks in study time while staying on top of her duties. That takes dedication.

Hold on a second. Throwing swords?

Well, you know, sometimes you need to throw something with a bit more...punch.

And yep yep, dedication it does take.

The assessment of how she relaxes also seems to fit very in-line with her character. I'll prolly add something like that in once I edit in the Spellcards, actually.

I think that her having naturally blond hair would look kind of cool as it grows in under the silver.

What with Aya and Sanae, it seems like the setting has a lot of wind users. Might she diversify a little, even as an experiment? (She might know a few small spells from other elements from back when she was first figuring out which to focus on.)

I actually considered this for a bit, mostly with fire(Something like making a small fire, throwing the knives in and having the wind carry the flames), but I wasn't really sure if I could actually implement it well, so I didn't end up keeping it in.

To be honest though, I can't think of anything more to say about Shinkusu. In fact, you could say that talk of her has...

I actually wonder if Remilia had a hand in the revolution. Sakuya obviously won't live forever and she refused Horai immortality at least in IN so maybe Remilia manipulated some fate to prepare for Sakuya's eventual absence.

Making the fairies step up competence would be a good first step. Of course, she probably just spun the roulette wheel of fate because a fairy revolution probably isn't what she intended.

Anyway, its a thought I had. In a hypothetical game, Remilia lamenting/gloating to Patchy could be the good ending for her play-through.

Okay, two more points on Shinkusu:

1) It might be cool to have her expand into Metal as well as Wind, especially since she admires Sakuya so much. Also, it'll let her conjure the swords she throws around.

2) I imagine the fairy rebellion as a war of attrition that they can't possibly lose. Picture: a ragged and out-of-breath Remilia pins Shinkusu down with her foot and raises Gungnir on high. Shinkusu smiles and says, "Rats. Well, see you tomorrow!"

BOOM!

Remilia shuffles off to get some rest while she can.

@ Bocaj: That's an interesting theory, one I hadn't considered. Somehow, though, I almost like to imagine that she hadn't really intended it and her gloating is just her trying to play it that way(Cue Patchy eyerolling, Meiling amazed).

@ Durazno: Hmmm...I really like the idea of a Metal + Wind combination, actually. Given the sword-wielding, it makes perfect sense, doubly so because we've seen sword-conjuring in these games before(Patchy). Hm, now I'm thinking swords out of mid-air would be part of her overall fighting-game style...

And yeah, fairies basically have a ton of leverage when you consider each of them basically have Hourai-like immortality.

@ Xion: I'm wondering, will that discussion include idea-throwing about the SDM game? Because I happened to get an idea for that, somewhat at least, a bit ago...

@ Everyone: I was really busy today, paying bills and going to the store and such. I will definately update Shinkusu's profile sometime tomorrow.
