[up]Watch Ridonculus Race. I'd say its the best Total Drama since the very original Total Drama Island.

This is some great news! I wonder if Total Dramarama is over with now. Also, I wonder if there will be some retcons since the island was destroyed.

based on it being called island again without another subtitle and saying revisiting it for the first time in 14 years it might be a reboot but using characters from all of the total drama shows

I guess a full Continuity Reboot would make sense given that Dramarama has no continuity even within itself. Maybe the studio's sick of the continuity they established.

What we know about the new seasons is that there will be two seasons, each is 13 episodes and 22 minutes long. Chris and Chef are definitely confirmed while the contestants are gonna be new. Rumor is that some of the old cast will make cameos. If I had to guess, it'll probably the creator's pets (Owen, Duncan, Heather, etc) and possibly Feral Zeke. Although, Mc Gillis has stated that he regrets the feral arc so probably not.

It'll take place on Wawanakwa, which confirms that this is gonna be a reboot (hard to say if it's a soft or hard one). Although, considering the insane stuff that has happened in the series, I wouldn't be survived if the island appeared just because.

Terry Mc Gurrin is a confirmed writer (supposedly some of the writers are in their 20s) and is the one who confirmed most of the stuff here. The new seasons will also have modern teen stereotypes (Tiktok was mentioned in the earlier news). Concepts for the new seasons are being created and voice acting hasn't started.

My feelings are pretty neutral. This could be good assuming Fresh TV doesn't repeat the same mistakes again. And considering that creators usually have more creative freedom on streaming than cable TV, this can be a possibility. But if the bad elements (derailments, spotlight stealing squad, elimination houdini teams, etc) are still present, then there's less of an excuse considering they had ample time to learn from their mistakes.

Here's to hoping that something good can come out of this.

The new seasons will also have modern teen stereotypes (Tiktok was mentioned in the earlier news).

That should go over well with fans. Did the original even have any stereotypes based on memes or anything? The only meme references I remember were in more recent seasons, like that Jesus painting reference.

Though I would love to see a good satire of TikTok culture. This might actually be more authentic to how teenagers behave than the original was.

[up]The closest are Anne Maria, Sugar, and Leonard. Not sure if they count since they're based on specific people who are memes.

Just asking, but how many good Youtuber parodies are there? Just to know the odds of making a good parody of the people of Tik Tok.

[up]I don't interact with that part of You Tube. If Sugar is any indication, it probably leans on "not gonna be a good parody".

A Tiktoker will probably be a first boot. I'd be interested to see them do a furry or weeb stereotype, assuming they aren't just a first boot joke or an annoying punching bag.

Here's an interview with the creators of Total Drama. This portion about the upcoming content stands out.

"On how the new season will be different from the original, Mc Gillis noted: “There are two things we are changing up ever so slightly. The first big change is leaning into diversity. We feel that not only is this a moment we can celebrate diversity, but this is the show that celebrates diversity. We have a Latin X character, we have several Black characters, East Asian, South Asian, an amputee, two LGBTQ characters—who will have a relationship because our audience loves to ship! And to back that up, we have a writer who represents each of those cultural perspectives and is a young, fresh, funny voice. That’s five new writers in our room who are infusing all kinds of new humor and new energy into the show. That’s a big change for us and one that we found is only making the show better.”

[up]Queer characters would be a pretty big deal, given that their Tumblr blog was so infamously adamant about Noah not being gay and only ever confirmed Tom and Jacques as gay (though I don't think that blog was ever really that official).

I do think it's funny that they're selling their gay characters to the shipping crowd.

[The franchise has had several different iterations, some more successful than others. 'What we learned was, the further we got from a straight parody of the kind of shows that our audience is currently watching around the world, the less it resonated,' Mc Gillis said. 'As we go back this season, we are going to the season one model. It is generating the most compelling stories and the funniest laughs.]

Oh boy, I sincerely hope they aren't gonna misconstrue things like changing the setting each season with the reason people didn't like the later seasons and not things like Character Derailment, They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character, Spotlight-Stealing Squad, etc.

I didn't watch much of season five and I barely remember season four but I enjoyed Ridonculous Race. If the new seasons can learn from that and the earlier seasons I'll be happy.

Tom McGillis' AMA where he states he regrets the mistreatment of Ezekiel

Tom admits that the first boot joke/feral arc was the worst decision the company ever made. That's pretty ballsy. Maybe TheKoboldNecromancer can take solace with this info.

@jessicadicicco610

Seriously, why are they saying they are going to be diverse. The show was already diverse with having multiple black, Asian, Latino, and Polynesian characters. The only more diverse thing is that they are adding more sexual orientation diversity. And I really wish Latnix would be disowned and we start using Latine.

[up][up] Technically he never says he disliked the idea — just that the fans disliked it. It comes across like he found it to be a good idea at the time.

[up] Several of the ethnicities fall into Ambiguously Brown territory until Word of God confirms otherwise, so maybe they mean they're gonna have more characters written with their culture in mind? They do have characters whose ethnicities are incorporated into the story though, like DJ being Jamaican.

Though despite its impressive racial diversity, TD's track record with cultural sensitivity is... not exactly spotless.

@mightymewtron

I think maybe it could be a strength that they didn't make their characters tied into their ethnicities which could make them relatable. I mean Lashawn had an emphasis on her blackness, but you still could see her as her own character outside of it.
