People aren't art focused, the art is just what people first see. They then get drowned in the needlessly over-explained, bland jokes and start complaining about that.

And yet, now that the art improved, a lot of people have returned to the comic even though the writing is as mediocre as before.

A lot of people watch a lot of shit. This does not say anything about its objective quality. Sonichu, for example.

The problem is that people have different threshold for "art too bad to bother with the rest".

I know mine is low enough not to mind things like Ctrl Alt Del or The Wotch without any Art Evolution; but if the early pages of something look like Sweet Bro And Hella Jeff, it better either be Sweet Bro And Hella Jeff or have very beautiful recent pages.

"Ctrl+Alt+Del" and "decent" in the same sentence?

[Nope.]

I didn't really enjoy it when Buckley tried to shoehorn in a race joke during the current arc and now I'm pretty disillusioned with CAD. But Buckleys always been as great of a writer as he is an artist so maybe he will recover and start bringing in the laffs again :)

So you mean "mediocre" in both aspects?

I've always thought that he has a halfway decent art style and a decent ability to make jokes.

Unfortunately, he chooses to fuck that up with B^U and WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS.

It's a shame.

I've never seen what the fuss was about. Ctrl Alt Del has never been fantastic, but people act like it's the worst thing that's ever happened to existence as we know it.

This is still a signature.

^ I guess the issue is that some people actually like Ctrl Alt Del, and people don't like when other people like things they don't like. Shredded Moose, for instance, doesn't seem to have any fans, so it doesn't inspire as much rage even though it's often considered a worse comic. (I'd say that Ctrl Alt Del is the Twilight of webcomics, but Alien Dice already fills that role.)

I thought it was more because Mr. Buckley tends to be a gigantic asshat about his Love It or Hate It comic.

That's true, however, if you never read his newsposts or go on the forums, then you don't really know about the asshattery. Someone who just reads the comics won't have their opinion of it swayed by the author's outside actions.

Well I just wrote basically an essay on my feeling of the comic and decided to just say screw it and rap it up shortly. It feel that no matter how much of an improvement Tim makes as either an artist or a writer he will always be a giant asshat.

At least his art isn't as (proportionately) bad as Rob Liefeld's, with the more recent stuff.

Who cares about the writer being an asshat? That hasn't stopped me from enjoying any James Cameron movie for example. As long as the work is good, it doesn't matter what the writer/director/actor did. It is not like I live with them or need to work with them.

Normally, I'd agree. If you just read the comic, and didn't read the forums or news posts, you'd probably not know much about his asshattery. But a few years ago the artwork was lazy and repetitive and the writing was often stupid. These factors probably why the comic has grown a hatedom. Yeah lately he's improved, but the legacy persists.

Considering that Buckley was for a long time extremely adamant about not doing jack shit with the Scott storyline, I have to say that this has actually gotten me interested in the comic again.

Granted, the resolution will probably be shit, since he's really only doing this because people kept bugging him about it, but I am genuinely curious.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

I find a thread asking if Ctrl-Alt-Del is good now, and click it. I wander over to the comic out of curiosity.

Suddenly Scott is seen again.

And possessed by a superintelligent penguin.

...yeah no. I'm out again.

So how about that Ted sags guys?

Scott hesitating to kill Ethan, even though his masterstroke will kill millions more? The code word 73 telling Zeke to go outside, even though an entire arc was made in the past about not going outside as a fucking robot? A single satellite dish providing internet to the entire house, as well as being the sole weakness in a well-explained plan explicitly stated to have no weakness? This arc still going on for-fucking-ever?

Let me tell you something, Buckley.

I hate you.

In fact, I can't even describe how much I hate you in simple sentences. Let's say that my computer has 221 GB of data in it. I'm assuming your computer has at least twice that amount, Tim. If I were to delete every single item on your computer, from your fucking precious vijeo gamez to every archived strip of your shit comic, and replace all of it with a single notepad document with "HATE" typed as often as humanely possible, that would not equal one billionth of the hate I have for you now.

Hate. Hate. HATE.

The arc doesn't bug me so much. It makes sense that, should something insanely dangerous happen, Zeke be allowed to go outside. Keeping everyone alive is more important than maintaining the damn masquerade. Scott hesitating to kill Ethan could be the result of A Million Is a Statistic. The satillite...makes no sense, really. I'll give you that.

It's certainly more entertaining than the strip's been in some time, and really at least we're getting some damn resolution. Scott could've turned out to be Cthulu reincarnate and I still wouldn't mind.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
