Always stock up on anything that goes down in less than six bytes whenever you can. You'll never be able to not eat those items.

This chart has a list of what food the characters like and dislike. Though that only effects the sync boost you get from eating it initially.

Basically the protagonists have food preferences, from 1 (hate) to 5 (love). And how much a character likes it determines how much of a sync boost you'll get from eating that food.

Eh, since the sync bonuses from food last so little time, it's generally not worth worrying about too much.

But yeah, load up on ice cream and coffee. You can always have more of that.

Well... as someone who once did one of those "eat a bucket of ice cream in an hour" challenge that you sometimes see at ice cream parlors... let me just say that there is a practical limit on how much ice cream you can consume. And you don't want to approach it.

As for coffee... well, we already know about what happens when you have tons of that.

I've had this game for ten years now and this is the closest I've ever come to 100%ing it. I love that the combat still doesn't get old after all this time.

How do I level up pins?

[up]I know the DS version had three ways to do it, each way giving you different types of points:

  • Fighting in battles gives you Battle Pin Points.
  • Not playing the game for a while gives you Shutdown Pin Points.
  • Connecting with other players gives you Mingle Pin Points.

I don't know how the iOS version of the game does it.

[up]Well, leveling up Pins do evolve some of them. It depends on the Pin.

Remember how I mentioned there were three types of Pin Points? Some Pins only evolve if the majority of Pin Points used to level them up are a certain type. Some Pins even evolve into different Pins depending on the Pin Points used.

For example, Pin A normally evolves into Pin B if you level it up with Battle Pin Points. However, if the majority of Pin Points is Mingle Pin Points instead, Pin A evolves into Pin C instead.

The TWEWY wiki has a list of Pins that also lists what they evolve into (if they evolve at all) and what Pin Points you need to put into the Pins to get them to evolve.

Don't quote me on this, but I think Mingle and Shutdown pin points count 10x as much for purposes of deciding evolution. So if 11% of your pin points are Mingle points and 89% are Battle points, Mingle decides which way the pin will evolve.

This is correct.

The multiplier might not be 10x (I don't actually recall), but the colors on the exp bar in the pin menu are weighted correctly, so you can use that.

[up]Yeah, a little goes a long way when it comes to Mingle and Shutdown PP. Note that evolving a pin will not mark it as mastered, if you're a completionist going for 100% pin mastery. Mingle PP seems impossible to get at first if you don't have anyone to mingle with, but as long as your game is in Mingle Mode, you'll encounter stuff at random intervals. I guess the developers knew connecting with other players wouldn't always be feasible, so the game just kinda throws you a bone.

Fun fact: If you enter Mingle Mode and you have a classic DS (or DS Lite) with Pictochat open, TWEWY will detect it and you'll get mingle points. Not as many as with another TWEWY game, but enough that you can feasibly level up pins.

Side note: the fastest way to gain PP is to save your game, then set the DS's clock to like a year ahead or whatever, and then boot the game again. Save and repeat. It saves SO much time you have no idea, just be wary of pins that evolve with shutdown PP that you might not want to evolve.

I just made it to day 7 on week 1, and I'm stuck on a reaper that sicced respawning birds on me and a GIANT one that I can only hit when it flies to attack me and there seem to be no safe places to hide. (And it dropped a truck on me for 148 damage.)

Any tips?

Can someone help me with Beat? I'm on Day 7 of week 3 and I still have no idea how he works, but he always takes like 286% damage more than Neku and always dies. I had to set the Uzuki and orange-hair guy to easy both times because Beat kept taking exponential amounts of damage.

Also I have no idea how poker works so I don't know how his combos work, or why sometimes there's a whole line of cards and no star but I get 5 stars really quickly other times.

Beat does indeed have less defense than Joshua or Shiki; he compensates by doing more damage and potentially getting his combos faster. Also, keep in mind that he does more damage when he's in the air than when he's on the ground.

The way his combos work is that when you hit the end of a combo string, 2 cards (1 if he's doing an aerial combo, caused by hitting back during a grounded combo) will be added to his display at the top of the screen. An arrow will appear either at the end of one side of his "hand", or between two existing cards. That shows you where the cards will go when you complete another combo.

For example, if his hand currently has a heart and diamond card, and looks like this ( [♥][♦] ), and the arrow is between those two cards, then getting a single club card ([♣]) will result in it being placed between them, resulting in this hand ([♥][♣][♦]). However, if the arrow is to the left of the cards, it'll look like this ([♣][♥][♦]).

What you want to do is form pairs of cards with the same symbol. There are four symbols that can be held in his hand, with corresponding colors: red heart [♥], a green club [♣], a blue spade [♠] and yellow diamond [♦]. There is also a black skull-marked card that can't be held. To make combos, you need to look at where the arrow is on his meter, and try to get cards that put cards of the same symbol next to each other. The skull-marked card is what lets you cash out your hand, earning 1 fusion star for each pair in the hand at the time, and erasing any unmatched cards that remain. A hand that looks like this ([♥][♥][♣][♣][♦]) would earn 2 stars, for example; one for the pair of hears, and one for the pair of clubs.

The biggest danger with his system is that there are also two flames on either side of his card meter, that slowly move in towards his cards, the longer you keep your hand without cashing out. If they ever touch the cards, your whole hand will burn away, and Beat will take damage. All in all, Beat is a glass cannon. He can potentially do a lot of damage very quickly, but he suffers from a lack of defense and a star mechanic that can hurt him if played carelessly.

One last thing is that when you cash out your hand with the skull, normally any unmatched cards disappear. But it's possible to create combos with the cards. When the pairs are removed, all the remaining cards collapse together, and you get credit for any new pairs that form as a result. For example, if your hand is this ([♦][♥][♥][♦]) when you cash out, the hearts will disappear, pushing the diamonds together and making a new pair. ([♦][♦]). This pair will then cash out, earning you 3 stars instead of 1. Setting up a combo can get you lots of fusion stars quickly, but the flames are a ticking clock.

I'm assuming this is the DS version, because I know fusions work differently in the single-screen versions and I don't really know how that goes.

So. Each ground combo adds two cards to Beat's hand, where the arrow is. Each air combo adds one. After three combos, the skull appears, that activates the... thing that turns cards into stars.

The ... thing basically just goes like this:

1. Set X to 1.
2. For each group of two or more identical cards, remove that group and grant X fusion stars. If no such groups exist, instead discard the whole hand and stop.
3. Increase X by 2, goto 2.

So if you hit the skull while Beat's hand looks like DSSDCH, it goes -> DDCH (+1) -> CH (+3) -> done.

If you hit the skull while Beat's hand looks like CDHSHCDSCHDS, it just clears his hand without granting any fusion stars.

The skull only appears after three combos (ground or air, so you could have only three cards).

Also there's fire on the edges — that moves towards the hand after a short delay, resets to the edges with every combo, and if it touches the hand it destroys all the cards and deals minor damage.
