Well...that was...cool.

What exactly was the Russian supposed to be? Also Tezca without his mask...cool. Also does this make Noah the "Madness of Greed"?

So random discussion topics...that's what now...6 Death Scythes we've seen?

Any guesses as to what nationality/weapon type the other two will be?

First page: Maka skydiving with a dinosaur

So Tezca is alive, Crona is fighting a Captain Ethnic, Gopher is now the minion of an animated statue of the Madness of Rage (the original presumably having been killed by Asura), and Noah was the Madness of Greed.

That's a lot of stuff for one chapter.

I didn't get the impression that Noah was the Madness of Greed. Rather, I gathered that he was being affected by the Madness of Knowledge that was inside the book. By knowing everything, he stopped thinking, just like Stein claims happened while carrying the book. By not thinking, he lost all actual purpose or motivation in his life and was left with nothing but the collection. A collecting "machine". He was ultimately just a human who was being influenced by madness though. Like Justin.

Meh. There's that, but there's also TOC's line about him having 'greed' and the new 'wrath' guy looking exactly like him.

But anyway, good chapter. I was a little disappointed with the last chapter; as it seemed to be shoving Noah out of the way a little too quickly, but this new development makes it a lot better.

Thinking about it some more, Noah was probably a manifestation of the Greed chapter of the Book of Eibon. So he wasn't a normal human, but he wasn't a full-fledged "Madness" either. Just a puppet of Knowledge bearing the aspect of Greed. The "Madnesses" aren't based on the seven sins, after all.

Maybe that's what you guys meant in the first place. I was thinking in terms of the "Great Old Ones" who are aligned with Order, Fear, Knowledge and Power so far. Noah is not one of those guys.

Good theory. That actually makes more sense than Noah being a Great Old One; for one thing, it explains why he and Wrath look the same.

That explanation, actually makes that chapter much clearer to me. We'll have to see if that's the right interpretation, but that's the clearest I've seen so far.

Not Soul Eater

Interesting. You think the creator is tired of the epic plot and wants to go back to kids working to become death scythes?

Wow. This is looking good. Though, we know how these stories can turn poor quickly.

So it's set before the events of the main series? I suppose that's only logical if they want to stick to the class setting.

So it's Soul Eater as a yuri romance comedy? Cool

Well, Maka and Black Star are in it, and I suppose that's a living Sid, so yeah. I can imagine this series being parallel to the timeline from the original Soul Eater too, though, but following a story of its own.

It's kind of cool seeing Not-Zombie-Sid and I like this spin-off so far, just so long as there isn't a quality drop in original flavor.

Well, unfortunately, I see a few major things that turn me off. When seeing the anime of (and reading some of) the first parts of the original, I was enjoying it so much to the point where I thought the designs were the freshest I ever seen in a long time, and the tone quite intense. Here, I don't feel any of that. In fact, I'm fairly certain he's ripping off K-On! half the time with the new girls. Not iconic or memorable at all.

Well, it doesn't. I got the impression that they'd be competing to be her official meister.

^^^The exact inverse of the setup in Kid's dorm room at night, presumably.

But yeah... the cleanest resolution to this triangle is for Meme to find another Weapon. I like Anya a lot more than Meme, so I'd like to see Halberd be paired with her. In all the meanings of the word, I suppose.

It looks good to me so far! We got some worldbuilding with the first few volumes of the original, but even then Soul and Maka were almost done with their collection. This should help shed a lot of light on the selection process (which apparently is just 'pick a partner', I guess) and the other workings of the DWMA.

Apparently they play bingo for the leftovers.
