Well, there is a lot of light coming from there, so either it's the sky (after drastic changes due to the recent going-ons; maybe an Alien Sky?), or there is something at some altitude that is blocking the view.

I fear to ask where the plot's gotten too since I stopped. I left off when they picked up after the bomb was... stopped? I never learned who that mysterious guy in white was, or who the Darkstar Council really are, who the Medabot chick was.

Actually, I think I stopped when they focused on Atomic Betty and the Cluster.

So what incident was this?

Probably something that resulted in the mass deaths of the Medabots main cast. It and her current state would explain why Samantha has gone full-blown Ax-Crazy with a passive Omnicidal Maniac streak.

Update. Something tells me that all these static crackles scrambling select parts of the doctor's dialogue are specifically to magnify Samantha's shock when she finally realizes the full extent of what she lost.

... Holy shit. For the reader, sometimes knowing less is worse than knowing every single detail.
