Araki picked the name at first because it sounded cool.
Disgusted, but not surprisedGiven he's a Satanic Archetype it's ironic. That said while I like to joke(?) Dio and Diavolo are the spawn of Satan I do wonder if there's a legit version of God and Satan in this 'verse. The closest thing to God in this series is fate, and that's more akin to the Force
I'm still a little surprised DIO didn't try to cut off his head when Star Platinum shattered his weak leg. Even then, if Hamon blood is what's keeping him from using his freezing-on-contact ability, what's stopping him from using his Space Ripper Stingy Eyes to one-shot Jotaro if he needed to decapitate himself again?

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.Given the synchronization effect, even cutting off his own head wouldn't have helped that time. Star Platinum effectively shattered DIO's soul when he destroyed The World.
And the eye attack wouldn't have been faster than Star Platinum anyway even if Jotaro couldn't activate another Time Stop so quickly again.
Besides, DIO was in a state of utter panic and shocked disbelief over his impending doom. He probably wouldn't have been able to think clearly even if his brain wasn't in the middle of exploding too.
It doesn't help that his body was being destroyed at a much faster rate than his original body was.

Disgusted, but not surprisedDIO's weird to me. I'm like the Abbacchio to his Giorno. I don't like him whatsoever, and yet at the same time, I tend to overestimate his abilities.
Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve. The light novel of Dio's Diary is hilarious when you put it together with what he's actually like in the manga/show. In the diary he's this introspective and contemplative man with flowery prose waxing philosophy about the universe while he's this overly hammy cartoonishly evil villain outside of it. What's especially funny is that he writes one final entry while Nukesaku was keeping the crusaders busy with the same prose as the rest of the diary but this is right after he was trolling Polnareff with the stair trick and screaming muda muda muda.
He's basically someone who is introspective and philosophical in private but likes being a total jackass troll when dealing with people he doesn't respect.
Which is most people.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThat's a very good point.
I don't know who needs to hear this but 12 episodes of the Stone Ocean anime have dropped on Netflix. Yesss.
He's introspective and philosophical in the feel part 1 moments we get inside his, and his speeches to Enya and Polnareff about peace of mind. And that's not even getting at the things he says to Pucci.
And him being inactive in part 3 is a thing I can only call a good move from the Watsonian perspective. Dio has no personal investment in that conflict. The Crusaders need Dio dead. Dio needs himself alive and, while doesn't necessarily need to, would benefit from the Joestars dead (blood to improve his synchro with Jonathan's body). Going out there is a risk far above the return.
Anyways, the main thing that makes Dio simple to understand is that every Jojo villain has the same motive. Everyone links directly to Dio's "peace of mind" to staircase Polnareff.
- Dio 1 feared his poor, powerless life would go on forever and sought fortune (and later power beyond humanity) for peace of mind.
- Kars feared the sun and sought to conquer his weaknesses for peace of mind.
- Dio 3 feared the Joestar party after his neck and wanted them dead for peace of mind.
- Kira feared being removed from his routine and erased all his tracks for peace of mind.
- Diavolo feared being seen and sought the power to remain always emperor in the shadows for peace of mind.
- Pucci feared the weight of his and Domenico's sins and sought a rewrite of fate for peace of mind.
- Valentine feared all harm that could come to America and sought to fling that at every other country for peace of mind.
- Tooru feared losing his monopoly over the Locacaca and sought to secure the graft and market to the elite for his group's financial peace of mind.
Even Jojolion's arguable fake-out villain, Jobin, followed Araki's usual pattern, with him fearing the curse and wanting to protect his family's peace of mind. Jojo is amazingly consistent with Central Theme of courage, with every villain being a very unique flavor of coward motivated by cowardice to contrast with the brave Jojo taking fate's challenges head-on.
The cowardice is even more obvious in parts that have subordinate villains who are braver than their bosses.
Part 2 for example has Wamuu and even Esidisi. Tellingly, Joseph expresses respect for them in their last moments. By contrast he had nothing but contempt for Kars and trolled him right before he was launched into space.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI realized it's probably gonna take eight-ish years for all the Jojo manga (barring Jojolands) to come out in the States.
Over 900 years, he shall recover his heartbeat. Over 90 years, he shall recover his intellect. Over 9 years, he shall recover his power.Four episodes in to this first batch of twelve. Really good thus far.
Also, getting a real "Those that Don't Know vs. Those that Do Know" in regards to the imagery of the ED.
OMG why did they cheek up Jongalli so much in the shower scene I was laughing.
I forget how strong Stone Ocean starts off. Minus the copyright names, the dub is really good so far too. Guess' VA nailed her perfectly.
You know, getting Ricepirate to voice Abbacchio was already one foot forward, but now that they've cast YongYea as Pucci... maybe my wish of having Pro ZD voice Donatello Versus might be possible!

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve. Also between the two - I'd say Giorno's first opening is still king, but Jolyne's is alright. Its got way more personality, but I like the singing in Fighting Gold more.
That said, Jolyne's has better animation, and I don't say that lightly.
For Abbacchio, Bucciarati and Narancia the chains cross over them.
Abbacchio stands in a hourglass with chains flowing out symbolising his fate is running out.
Bucciarati continues to walk and stand in defiance as the chains(his fate) try to stop him.
Narancia's face continues to grow darker when ever a chain washes over him symbolising that his fate like, Abbacchio's is running out.
Part 4 and 5 were things of their own and thus their openings also were, this is why they were animated. But Stone Ocean, as I said, is the return to the original plotline and its End, this is probably why it's in CGI, because of how linked to the parts with a CGI opening it is.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Yet we never got the "STOP POSTING ABOUT AMONG US" guy as Ghiaccio
Also-also, since I can finally do this:
SUNLIGHT YELLOW OVERDRIVE
HERE ARE THE VERY NEXT WORDS THAT WILL COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH
ORAORAORAORAORAORAORAOROAROAROAROAORAOROA
WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT MY HAIR? GET OUT HERE YA PUNK BITCH!

This is pretty much the end of the Joestar-Brando saga, and I am sad about that.

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.Damn these episodes are great... absolutely fallen in love with Jolyne thus far and finished the first batch of episodes. Can't wait until Jan for the new ones
she/herAfter what they did for Giorno, there's no way David Production isn't gonna adapt this from Chapter 101, right?
Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.
I just now realized how thematically fitting the ending of Stone Ocean is. Because at the end ultimately its a battle between the will of DIO vs the will of Joestar.
Jotaro manages to kill DIO in retribution for the murder of Jonathan and eventually a subordinate of DIO rises up to successfully avenge him who in return is finally killed by a subordinate of Joestar.
Its incredibly fitting since by the point of the ending there is nothing left, its the end of the universe with both DIO and Jojo dead leaving only Pucci and Emporio, followers of each individuals respective will. So in an ultimate battle that goes back centuries for literally the fate of the entire universe, will be decided be by whose will and influence is ultimately stronger.
Even more fitting that Emporio's victory was ultimately a team-effort as he survived through the assistance of all of Team Jojo and used Weather Reports Stand to finish off Pucci. This signifies the ultimate defeat of DIO in both body and soul, as he was physically defeated by Jojo and his legacy was thwarted by a spirit that transcends bloodlines.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."One thing I've realized about Part 6 is how the characters weaponized the spiritual concepts established in previous parts.
"Stand users are drawn to each other." Whitesnake's plan boils down to creating Stand users randomly and just letting this rule bring them into conflict with each other.
"Stand users can sense other Stand users they're related to." When Pucci fuses with the Green Baby, he gains the Joestar birthmark from Jonathan's bone, which is what allows Jolyne to chase him across Florida.
I'm already two episodes in, and instant highlight for me? ...Gwess singing Dolly Parton's "Jolene". It's freaking perfect.
Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.
DIO is named after God.
Coincidence, I think not!
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
