Also hoping we get at least a moderate visual overhaul. The old models are not that great tbh and the game tunes up the bloom a bit too much.

Takahisa Taura (the gameplay director/designer for Automata) is apparently supervising this project but that could mean a number of things, wouldn't get my hopes up for anything but a lock-on system (maybe).

After the 12018 concert and the side stories I find it very doubtful that they're going to tackle Gestalt

I mean, I'm open to being pleasantly surprised but my speculation is that Yoko Taro's been writing with Brother Nier in mind after it blew up into a franchise and is streamlining stuff

I mean we know for a fact that the original was written with brother nier in mind and Gestalt was purely the result of SE NA wanting a more marketable game for the west. You can tell because certain scenes and plot points make far more sense with brother nier.

That be sad cause while I never played the original Nier, I always thought Dad-Nier looked cooler than Brother-Nier.

Especially since teenage brother characters are dime a dozen here so playing as a grizzled father is pretty cool.

Then again there is the current trend of playing as grizzled father figures so hey it was made ahead of the curve.

Hope the gameplay is better. I hear before Automata Yoko games had kinda bad gameplay.

So Replicant is getting a remaster? YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And there might be some more things sprinkled in regards to 2B and 9S's VAs and a nonanswer to the possibility of an Ending E AND the guy who supervised Automata's gameplay is involved? Intrigue is afoot. This might be a remaster+. (But I probably wouldn't be surprised if we end up getting a playable epilogue where we play as Kaine after she gets saved by Brother Nier after he sort of erases himself from existence.)

I wouldn't say bad, more like very samey gameplay.

By the way, I don't know if they made used it already, but the trailer from the last page uses a music box rendition of Kaine's theme.

But yeah, holy shirtballs! NieR: Replicant is getting a remaster that will be localized! I mean, did anyone see this coming? This feels like a shadow drop announcement.

I vastly prefer Dad Nier to Bro Nier because while young male protagonists are a penny a dozen, old male protagonists are very unique.

They were selling Kainé and Weight of the World music boxes to promote the Orchestra concert so that's probably where it was produced first.

I'm not fully torn up over Gestalt being skipped over because lbr Daddy Nier's Time Skip design is pretty silly

Gacha Nier hopefully has the Stageplay characters in it.

Just so I can have gay 9x2 next to 9x2.

And of course, Stageplay where all the genders were flipped so A2 was now a guy.

Didn't Automata include references to both brother and papa Nier?

Funnily enough, even though Nier came out before the Sad Dad trend of games, it works quite well as a subversion of them.

Kind of makes it a bit of an Unbuilt Trope, all things considered. That, and it basically was Spec Ops: The Line two years earlier.

Yeah he chooses his daughter over the world, and his daughter is still going to die a horrific, slow, and painful death. the only difference is whether he'll still continue to not be there or if he'll actually remain by her side till the end.

Taro's been clear Brother Nier is more likely to sacrifice himself because the desperate things he had to do to support himself and his sister have made him far more broken, and giving his life for the woman he loves is a way to end things on a good personal note for himself and finally "This silence is mine".

And Ending E pops out a brand new Nier clone with zero memories so he has that to go on for awhile.

Papa Nier is one of my favorite protagonists of all time but I am super interested in seeing the Brother's side of the story too.

Asura is probably both the Sadder and the Angrier dad, though due to the suffering of his worlds people as much as what happens to his own kid, which makes him unique compared to other sad/mad dads.

He's also Grimoire Weiss, so he has that going for him.

I just realized that this remaster being called ver. square root of 1.5 (was too lazy to type out the string so going with this shorthand mnemonic) is pretty fitting with how the Yorha plays keep getting revised with titles like ver. 1.2, 1.3 and the like

I don't remember how substantial the changes were for the plays but I think the remaster will probably line up with those in terms of writing

or everyone in Replicant got genderflipped

I was actually wondering what was up with mathematical subtitle of 1.22474487139...

I immediately thought the last time we got a weird jumble of anything was with the Automata DLC that had that weird jumble that ended up having some secret meaning I can't remember what.

Think that "secret meaning" aspect will apply here too?

The games are the exact same minus some minor dialogue changes. The main thing that changes with brother nier is mostly subtext and certain elements of the story and character dynamics make more sense with him since he was the original vision for the game.
