The stock cameo of the Glitch Gremlin reminds me that I've always wanted James to do a Game Glitches sequel.

Almost caught up! Just watched the Earthbound episode. Who would have thought that the longest and, really, best episode of the AVGN would be about a good game. For this episode he actually sounded more like James Rolfe the cinema guy than the AVGN, and that was refreshing. Alas I have never played Earthbound since I never had an SNES, so I can't really discuss the theory he presents at the end. But it sure looks like an experience…

You know, yesterday I was also rewatching the JDG's Takeshi's Challenge episode and I was curious to see the AVGN tackle that. Imagine the "Angry" Video Game Nerd playing a game specifically designed to piss the players off. That could be the polar opposite of the Earthbound episode. X)

Whenever it was he said "YOU DON'T DO THAT!!!" I love quoting that line.

I also loved his reaction to the puzzles in Little Red Hood.

I liked his rage over the newer Godzilla games being everything he wished the Godzilla games of his childhood were.

Aaand I'm all caught up! I didn't think the N-Gage could actually make a game like Tomb Raider run… But well to sum up the episode,

FUUUUU- FUUUUU- FUUUUU- FUUUUU- FUUUUU- FUUUUU- FUUUUUCK!

And this might answer the above question too.

That might have been it, but I think he's said it more than once. For example, his rant in Little Red Hood starts with a similar line: "WHY WOULD ANYONE THINK TO DO THAT?!!"

There's also "Bible Games 2" where he asks, "Why would you do that?!" referring to why anyone would make games based off the bible.

Speaking of Bible Games 2, there's this fantastic line during his Sunday Funday segment:

"Who are these raging atheists that wanna keep you from getting to sunday school?"

What really gets me about Sunday Funday is they went through the trouble of altering things from Beach Menace to make it less violent or less inappropriate (the girlfriend with the rotting clothes), but left in blowing up said atheist characters to pieces!! Talk about Unfortunate Implications!

Also, in regards to my earlier comment about wanting a "Game Glitches" sequel episode, I happened to find a video where James and Mike are going through their old scripts and the subject of another Glitches episode comes up, but James says the first one was too difficult to produce (getting the glitches to actually work took too much time), and so he wouldn't be interested in doing another.

Damn.

The "What were they thinking?!" becoming "Was was I thinking?!" when he realizes someone made his "lava shark" trap idea into a reality in AVGN Adventure was also pretty priceless.

Now on Amazon Prime and coming soon to Youtube is another Nerd double shot. First is the final chapter in Resident Evil’s PS 1 releases, Resident Evil Survivor. Then Hydlide is back with Super and Virtual Hydlide.

Ah yes, these two are a piece of work. The latter especially.

Is it just me, or has James lately been going more in-depth with behind-the-scenes info in his game reviews?

Is Dead Aim worse than Survivor? Because 1. I don't see how that's possible and 2. From the footage I've seen It doesn't LOOK as bad....

In any case, oh man that was an enjoyable review. The Nerd's game was on point this time. The gags got legit laughs, his references were very on point (I kinda get the feeling he played the first two games and really liked them) and I especially appreciated his running gag of subverting his own running gags. He seems to do that a lot in more recent reviews. And you gotta love him inserting himself into the footage. All too appropriate for a game who's early installments (especially the first) looked and sounded more like a parody than most actual parodies. If nothing else, I think we can all agree that this is one time James was the best actor in the room by a large margin.

I'll personally have to disagree with the Nerd on the voice acting on Survivor. Of course it's bad, but I don't think it's as bad as the first game. Though admittedly, it might be more that the dialogue isn't as bad in Survivor, whereas the first game's dialogue sounds more like a parody than something people would actually say "I hope it's not.....CHRIS'S BLOOD." I personally think the voice acting in the series didn't get really "good" until at least 4, with the exception of Allison Court as Claire (man I wish Capcom didn't break her perfect record) who got noticeably better in each game. For a perfect example of the change in voice acting in the industry, compare Code Veronica and its direct remake story-wise, Darkside Chronicles, which the two main villains go from laughably camp to effectively chilling. It's like that time they redubbed the infamous "What am I fighting FORRR!" scene from that one Mega Man game.

Anyway, I'm a longtime fan of RE who sticks with the series though thick and thin, and even I've never bothered to play Survivor, and I'm glad I didn't. It looks and sounds terrible.

I haven't seen the Hydlide review yet, but I'm curious what those installments play out. When I saw the trailer I was curious and looked them up, and apparently there's enhanced ports/remakes, the one with the digital actors looks dreadful, but I'm curious about the other one.

Super Hydlide was apparently a game that tried to push "realism" a tad too far. It takes hunger, fatigue and lack of sleep into account, and there's a system that slows you down if you carry too much weight… which includes your money. So yeah, looks fun.

Otherwise, I liked the skit in the RES review (the one with picking up the beer especially ) but there's a bit too many shit jokes for my taste. Yeah, I know it's the AVGN, but they seemed a bit too easy there.

Hydlide has a lot of toilet jokes too, but it’s funny enough that he lampshades it and cuts himself off a few times.

Anyway, he showed a lot more of Virtual than the JDG did back in the days, which is nice. This game actually seems much more diverse in its ugliness than I thought. Even the pristine silver armor looks ugly, how do you do that? >.> Now the end of the video was a little… abrupt?

Indeed. I'm surprised that there's an actual, apparently very serious book titled "On Bullshit".

Rather stunned that he referenced Muzzy of all things. Damn, that's obscure.

"The knight's name is Jim? That doesn't sound like a name for a knight. Sounds like a nerd." (aside glance)
