No wonder it looks like Yoshi's New Island.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Well, you weren't kidding!
But yeah, this game isn't impressing me. It looks too shallow and uninteresting. As much as I love Pikmin, I'll be giving this one a pass, too.
Goddamn. Is the berry respawn rate on Burgeoning Spiderworts random? I'm trying to do a 7-day run, and I've successfully cleared the caves and used the glitch to get Blue Pikmin early, but I keep failing to complete an Ultra-Bitter Spray before the day ends because the berries aren't respawning fast enough.
I'm looking at a guide and for this guy the berries respawned instantly.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Apologies for the double post, but I just completed the entire Perplexing Pool in a single day.
Got Yellow Pikmin, got every above-ground treasure, and cleared all four caves. The 0 on the countdown was fading away as I jumped into the last cave.
It took me an entire real-life day to do so, with an unfathomable amount of resets, dry runs, and do-overs, but nevertheless I completed it and I feel like a golden god.
Edit: And now I'm done for good. 201 treasures in 7 days, with 0 deaths. I feel like a member of a very exclusive club. And with a complete enemy bestiary, to boot, even Ravenous Whiskerpillars.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Miyamoto: Pikmin 4 still progressing.
What is with Pikmin and being announced way in advance?
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences. To drum up the hype and let fans know the series isn't dead.
I don't think anybody was fearing a series that Miyamoto currently cherishes the most and has the most investment in would be dead.
Not to mention a series that has consistently sold well and was one of Nintendo's first ventures into DLC, which also sold well.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Glad to see Pikmin getting munched is just as distressing in 2D as it was in 3D.
And by glad I mean D:
So, I got Hey! Pikmin and after playing it for a bit, with all the doom and gloom people have been saying about it, I'm pleasantly okay with it. It does have flaws; hit boxes and several enemies being Bulborb Larva on crack being one of them but otherwise, I'm enjoying my experience so far.
I love the little cutscenes you get throughout levels. It really makes the Pikmin feel like companions instead of just a faceless army of Mooks. The treasure and creature log is pretty hilarious at times and surprisingly in line with Pikmin 2's logs.
Overall, I think it's a decent spin-off. I can understand people not liking it because of how different it is but going into it with an open mind, it's pretty nice.

I'm not ready to get it just yet, but I'd like to try it sometime. It looks fun.
It is. Like said, it has its flaws but I would definitely say it's above the usual 3DS spin-off game standards as of late.
The game also tracks No Death Runs if you beat a level without losing a single Pikmin by adding a gold Pikmin medal above the level. I'm not sure what getting all the golden Pikmin medals does yet but I'm currently attempting it as I go, so I'll report back on that soon.
Some of the levels get really rage-y though if you're going for that though. There was one bonus level, the 'Hallowed Sky' or something like that. You have very little margin for error on that level if you want to keep all your Pikmin alive. I think I spent half the day trying to no death run that level alone.
I feel like I should do a new challenge run of Pikmin 2 soon. I've already done a 7-day deathless run so I'm really not sure where I could go from there. Minimum Pikmin?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Purple-less/spray-less is basically its own mini-challenge in of itself.
Does make me wonder what Pikmin aren't actually required to complete the 'main game' of Pikmin 2. I remember something about a 'blue-less' run of Pikmin 1 but that was just get as many parts blue Pikmin-less as possible.
Well...
From what I can tell, it's possible to beat Pikmin 2 with a minimum of 101 Pikmin (1 red to prevent extinction, 100 purples), but requires some kind of glitch to get yellow and blue Pikmin without actually triggering their onions (which allows you to extinct them later without the game throwing a fit).
For individual colors, you need 35 reds to access emergence cave, and obviously 100 purples to get the Doomsday Apparatus. Should only need 1 white. Not sure on yellow or blue. I'd assume blues would be based on the heaviest treasure that's completely waterlogged, though.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Oh, apparently they've figured out how to bump Pikmin 2 down to just 6 days, with a glitch that lets you acquire the Decorative Goo without Yellow Pikmin. That dumb tube of paint was the only obstacle preventing completion of Awakening Wood in 1 day.
So I guess that'll be my next challenge after minimum Pikmin.
I did some research, and it seems like these are the minimums:
- 101 total Pikmin (100 Purples for the Doomsday Apparatus, 1 Red to prevent extinction.)
- 35 Red Pikmin (35 mandatory during tutorial, convert 33 of them into Purples and 1 into White.)
- 0 Yellow Pikmin (It's technically possible to claim every treasure by using exploits to bypass all electric fences and high ledges, making them unnecessary.)
- 10 Blue Pikmin (With exploits that allow any Pikmin to carry treasures through water it's possible to collect all above-ground treasures without Blue Pikmin, but the Submerged Castle's first floor has a 10-weight treasure that cannot be collected by any other means. Once that's done, all 10 Blue Pikmin get converted into Purples and a different exploit prevents the game from noticing they've gone extinct.)
- 100 Purple Pikmin (33 from Reds, 10 from Blues, 1 from White, and 56 from Bulbmin.)
- 1 White Pikmin (Once all buried treasures and poison have been dealt with, this lone guy can become Purple too.)
However, some of the exploits regarding Yellows and Blues may be mutually-exclusive. I'll have to check.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Pikmin 3 Deluxe announced for October 30th.
'Bout time!
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Wait, why do we have 2 Pikmin threads?
SoundCloudNo idea.
The other one’s way smaller (53 posts compared to over 1,000) so if we close one, it should probably be that one.
