Thinking of it, another cool headline would be "Tumblr leaves suicide note on Tumblr". Though perhaps a bit too dark...
Edit: "Whiny preteen threatens suicide on Tumblr" may be better, and lighter.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."People are recommending mastodon as an alternative to Tumblr. Literally all I know about it comes from the linked post, but I know people here were looking for alternatives, so figured I'd share.
In other news, a lot of people are noticing that LGBT fanart that does not run afoul of the stated guidelines is being flagged as in violation. So there's that.

Yeah, I’ve already seen harmless posts getting flagged. This feels like a PR disaster that they really should avoid and I'm hoping they don't go through with it at all.
Also, someone pointed out that December 17th is International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. Make of that what you will.
They can't back peddle out of this now.
Mileena MadnessThey should anyway. Too many companies screw themselves because they're more worried about looking "weak" or "indecisive" rather than just doing what is best for their customers/users—and by extension, themselves.
I mean, they're not going to back off, everything they've done so far has proven that they're trying to get out of their grave by digging deeper, but that's still what they should do.
I saw about 5-10 posts that were positive to the situation and MANY more negative posts, which I found kind of amusing in the disparity.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Just noted today they are now banning all Not Safe for Work posts from being allowed on the site on the eighteenth. I will point out that this could be history repeating itself given they were de-listed from the app store due to similar causes some time ago.
I’m pretty sure people are going to contradict me, but there is a gnawing feeling that there are too many parallels for me to ignore, even if it is by coincidence.

Wait a second: How on earth did I even get here?Mate, I need to make back-up of countless amount of smut artists' galleries, most of which don't even have tags, so I can't speed up the process by filtering everything that's not art.
And the app I was using suddenly decided it won't scan for external links (probably because Tumblr did something to third party links since the anouncement).
This is EXACTLY the time for me to panic!
Let me guess... The Internet Is for Porn is Serious Business for you... okay. And for the chance the panic is not for that reason...
Then again, many of them have moved away from tumblr after the revelation.
For the record about the last part...

Wait a second: How on earth did I even get here? What gets me most is the incompetence.
Like, I would still disagree with the decision to get rid of all of the NSFW content, because of the impact that has on sex workers and artists and others acting in good faith. I would still think it would be a shitty move, but it's their site, so on a certain level, I think it would be a bad decision and a wrong one, but. Not. Catastrophic?
But what makes it a a catastrophe is that the system is so broken and so many posts are getting hit by it that have literally nothing to do with NSFW content.
The level of ineptitude on display is astounding.
...If this were more competently done, I might have decided to leave in protest on the 17th, but now I think I'm staying as long as I can out of spite, and as an experiment to test how bad the algorithm actually is.
Oh man, someone on my timeline posted complaining about posts being flagged for showing ankles, and guess what got flagged?
Also. I am still getting follows from porn bots, and, I've checked, and some of their actual porn, of penis-in-orifice sex isn't getting flagged. And, I mean, real-life human genitals. The kind against the rules. The site is too stupid to recognize them.
So that's a thing.
Especially since now porn bots and porn blogs are showing up in the recommended blogs?
If I had confidence in the competence of the staff my opinion of this situation be a very different one.
...I could be wrong, I dont actually know anything, but I think the porn bots and blogs are on an automated system, right? With burner emails and stuff.
Tumblr's automated systems can't actually keep up with them. Ban one, and another replaces it. Or, it can, but only as far as keeping them stable.
But, with less legitimate users, the percentage of the porn bots and porn blogs is able to grow and increase? Maybe?
I honestly think that the Porn Bot Blogs might eventually be the only ones left, and that's hilarious.
Part of me is legitimately, scientifically curious about how bad this will actually get.

I might be wrong about this, but didn’t those bots started appearing around early 2017?
I think so? Like, I joined in 2016, and they started being a problem for me after like a year, so.
...Hell, maybe it's Russia or China. Or the NSA or FBI. Some weird psy-op.
...What'd be funnier is if it turned out they can't actually ban the porn bots because they generate too much ad revenue.
And it just becomes a contained ecosystem of porn bots and other porn bots clicking on each other's ads.

So what white supremacists are to Twitter and T_D are to Reddit, pornbots are to Tumblr huh...
Edited by Pachylad on Dec 4th 2018 at 10:31:51 PM
I mean, some of the porn bots might be white supremacists. And there are white supremacists on the site that dont seem to be bots.
I blocked at least one porn bot with a bunch of blondes with swastikas and caps. Which, as a half-black Jewish person wasn't a great experience.
But the porn bots are the main epidemic that I can see. And I think some of them get their images from underage people and there might be some trafficking and nonconsenting people involved and. It's pretty bad. The problem is a legitimate one.
But, like, from my end, as just a user, no matter how many I block there always seem to be more.
And if anything, they've gotten more aggressive and prevalent since the announcement.
I had to block, like. Ten at once. And then an hour later, 15.
It's gotten progressively worse over time, but it's like there was an explosion.

Two new pages?? Damn guys...
Meanwhile Newgrounds got so much traffic the servers crashed and Dreamwidth made a big blog post about welcoming Tumblr refugees.
Edited by lalalei2001 on Dec 4th 2018 at 8:04:07 AM
The Protomen enhanced my life.Newgrounds is literally ressurecting from the dead.
That, or Tumblr is Awakening the Sleeping Giant.
Watch SymphogearI find this entire thing funny, especially since it reminds me of the The Second Google Incident.
Soup.io also crashed from all the traffic.
Apparently official Sonic the Hedgehog comic covers are getting flagged too.
Isn't this also a hostile form of takeover? This might get to where people have some grounds on filing a lawsuit.

Mileena Madness
I haven't seen anything about that on my tumblr myself. But Tumblr flagging one of their own posts has happened on other peoples tumblrs.
