So, for those that are familiar with the Latin American Spanish dub, Labo is finally going to dub an uncensored version of the TV series. Arturo Castañeda is directing it and Noé Velázquez is returning as Sanji.

Also in the recent chapter Oden appears to be looking a little like Montblanc.

slimcoder, yes, we've had 104 episodes of 4kids One Piece and been stuck there since.

I changed my mind on the panelling. Its not the paneling that is confusing, its the more crowded and detail filled panels being too much for me.

So, Orochi basically just cut the bridges, so rebels wouldn't be able to travel to Tokage and destroyed the ships... And yeah, Beasts Pirates blew up the cave Sunny was kept, but whetever or not Sunny herself is destroyed is unknown.

So, what we have here is over 4000 rebels still alive and ready to fight, and Jinbee was mentioned... I'm starting to see where this is going.

Meanwhile, FLASHBACK TIME!!!

To go through a 4Kids-esque dub in this day & age.

Its like watching Transformers Prime in Japanese.

What happened with Transformers Prime in Japan?

To a generally serious & epic show, it’s Japanese dub ramped up the attempted comedy to obscene levels with characters constantly screaming lines & Japanese-exlclusive catchphareses (at one point Breakdown randomly yells out HAMBURGER right before he dies), nigh-contestant self-aware fourth wall-breaking humor (like Ratchet thinking he hears the audience warning him), excessive ad-libbing to force humorous dialogue (the Insecticons normally voiceless or quiet were turned into complete chatterboxes spewing jokes nonstop), & changing characterizations to sometimes drastic levels In Name Only levels.

For instance Arachnid. In English she’s a soft-spoken stealthy bounty-hunting serial killer with a penchant for gencoding entire species just for the fun of it & a hated rivalry with Arcee that compels her to murder Jack a young teenager to hurt her.

While in Japanese she’s to quote the wiki a “female parody of Pepé Le Pew; boy-crazy and single-mindedly amorous in her pursuit of Jack” & constantly yelling at the top of her lungs to the point she once sang a folk-song about a woman raping a man onscreen.

This is very common occurrence to Japanese dubs for Transformers cartoons. Beast Wars, Beast Machihes, & Animated all receive drastic changes for the sake of comedy. In Beast Machines they even turned Nightscream into a one-note camp gay joke with plenty of homophobic humor.

That description puts me in particular mind of the Digimon dub. Constant dialogue when it clearly wasn't there before and a Big Bad complaining how we her the pizza while he's left with the crusts.

Tbf Starscream himself doesn't help his case.

Remember that time he made a bunch of clones of himself based on his personality and the female one told him he DOESN'T want to know what part of his personality she's based on. And unlike Prime Starscream he doesn't even have high heel feet!

Even the original he could be joked as Megatrons screechy, bitchy lover constantly trying to usurp him at a moments notice.

Edit: Damn I read Nightscream as Starscream. Clearly its Nightscreams fault for having a similar name.

I do think Starscream is made to sound more over the top flamboyant like an okama over there though. Actually I think he’s voiced by Frieza.

Turns out Japan is just as capable of Macekre dubs same as everyone else.

Here’s another example from Beast Wars is what is probably the most hilarious example of adlibbing ever.

“In what is unfortunately one of the worst examples of adlibbing in this dub, when Rampage aims his cannon at Megatron and Megatron's head can be seen in close-up through the scope, Megatron continues to speak... with his mouth quite visibly shut. While the English version relied on silence and facial expressions to get the point of the scene across (Megatron's accursed smugness and Rampage's resigned anger at being helpless to wipe the smile off his face), the Japanese dub turns it into a prattling conversation as Rampage talks about shooting Megatron right then and there and Megatron (in the close-up with his lips closed) warning him of the consequences.”

Adding to insult to injury this was in Code of Hero, one of the most celebrated & tragic episodes in the entire franchise.

Whetever it's Japanese anime, western cartoon or somewhere in between, go with the original version. You'll get more genuine experience.

Yeah I heard about this way back in the past. Like when Gundam 00 was on tv. This one person was very annoyed by Dinobots voice.

Nice of you to dismiss dubs like that. Why not demand and GET a better dub?

Dubs have improved tremendously over time. Though I do find unfitting voices on occassion. Japan can be just as bad about this though with ill fitting voices.

Yeah, so no way the Sunny was actually destroyed. Hamburger Time said he was skeptical of Oda doing another fake out with the Sunny, but I had no problem believing that, and this very much reaffirms it.

Also, good on Orochi, even for sticking to his guns. You can't even say it's just paranoia since he apparently has legit intel on the situation.
