We don't even know if Dragon's even there.

I'd call it more likely than not, but we've yet to see him either way.

I wasn't expecting a one-chapter fight with a resolution. I was thinking more along the lines of the revolutionaries putting their plan in action, then the story cutting away right at either the start of their fight (ala Bon Clay vs. Magellan) or at a high point of the conflict (ala Ace vs. Blackbeard).

As it is, the story cuts away at a really weird point of dramatic tension, where it is neither tense enough to be a cliffhanger nor relaxed enough to be a denouement. I get that there might be any number of reasons to cut away there from Oda's POV, but it is weirdly unsatisfying as a reader.

I agree. I don't think Reverie focus is over because that is such a weird spot to end it.

Although, it'd be kind of weird to switch back after Zoro has clearly kicked off things at Wano

I don't know, as far as cliffhangers go finding out there's a king of the WG and the Elders are asking who they should purge from the world for him is a pretty good one.

I wouldn't be surprised if he intentionally set up those things to have one big chapter reveal after Wano is done.

910 spoilers: Back to the Sunny for this one. It has the crew encountering strange Japanese-themed stuff like a giant octopus that shrieks like a kabuki performer, giant koi, and some kind of waterspout/current that's apparently drawn like an ink painting. The Sunny apparently gets blasted by that last one and Luffy ends up alone on a beach where he sees a giant baboon with a katana so he figures he must be in Wano. Any mention of the Reverie is in the first part of the chapter where the group's looking over a newspaper article and briefly discussing the people they recognize (Vivi, Kureha, etc.). No hint of any foul play.

They better hope those carp don't turn into dragons. And I see that Sanji went back to being a bit of a meathead. Oh well.

I think Oda might be going about overboard with giving us name backdrafts for characters if he's even doing it for Luffy now.

[up] At least this one is a quick one that simply says "Luffy now has a bounty of 1.5 billions" and doesn't slow down the reads, rather than remembering us who are well known characters like Vivi or Marco.

     Quick thoughts

Luffy: Let's make a quick summary of reverie from our point of view

The other strawhats: Aye captain!

Sanji: Since noone liked me when I was well written in the previous arc, can I go back to being an annoying pervert?

Nami: Please no

(serious mode: Oda, I find funny most of your gags, but Sanji's crazy hormones stopped being funny after Fishman Islan)

-Octopus ninja! With a drum mode (99% will be relevant later)

Luffy: Look at the sea!

Brook: We're going inside a japanese painting! I have a deja-vu (thinks of his fight against Jora)

Sanji: I'm a pervert but at least I know biology

Nami: In a world that runs on nonsenseleum, you complain about carps being in the sea?

action ensues (p.s. very good drawings and action! Just a quick adventure chapter)

Luffy: I'm alone with a pig dog and a babbon, I guess I'll spend some chapters explorig the Island alone for worldbuilding purposes before I find my crewmates.

fun fact: One of the many Italian's equivalents of "holy shit" is "porco cane", which, if translated literally, it means "pig dog"

p.s. 99% there are tons of references to Japan's legends and culture that I don't recognize. It seems Oda is doing his best for Wano, which is reasonable, being inspired by his home country

I'm probably going to be Jossed on this, but the All Blue is defined as a sea where all species of fish exist together regardless of logic and this bit of water they just traversed had fish Sanji explicitly said shouldn't be there. The water being abnormally transparent allowing everyone to see all the fish at any time contributes to the "cook's paradise" element and Wano's isolationist nature could explain why so few people around the world found the All Blue.

I too thought of this, but I think the All Blue is probably near Raftel, so everyone's dream will become true at the same time. What a coincindence! (Just kidding, I'd like if it'd happen this way)

You'd think people would just accept that Sanji is never going to change despite the complaints. If anything, the last arc just reinforced everything people hate about him lol.

Basically. Whole Cake Island was used to reaffirm just who and what Sanji was, both good and bad.

[up] Among the other things the arc did, yes, though the perverted tendencies have appeared post timeskip .All justified after 2 years in an Island of transvestites that try to kiss you and dress you like a woman, but it would've been nice if these stopped after a while.

Speaking of other stuff, I've read that the octopus is a reference to a famous japanese painting (it features two octopus on a sleeping woman, I guess. Thank God the octopus did stop there and didn't move on Nami). Regarding the waves, I think we all know the references.

Also, re-reading it, the chapter is really well drawn, it helps that Oda's drawings seems to have gotten a bit worse (I guess health problems, I hope the volumes will be better) and I noticed how the dangerous sea around Wano helps the country's isolationist stand, I wonder if it didn't originate because few people could reach it.

Well, this isn't the first time that the crew has encountered a gigantic octopus on their ship.

The panel with Carrot looking directly at it and not saying anything (of all characters!) is such a simple yet effective visual gag.

Speaking of simple, the classic bit with an unconscious character being woken up by a crab pinching them; that felt like something you'd see way back at the beginning of the story. Anyway, I hope this new separation doesn't last long and Luffy starts reuniting with the others on the Sunny next week.

My favorite part about this whole chapter was just the random Octopus with the most stock Japanese sound effect ever.

Oda is having the time of his life writing this arc.

It reminds me that Chopper kept referring to Kumadori as an octopus. So, this is our second kabuki-octopus connection in the series thus far I guess.

As for the Sanji stuff... I mean, I wasn't expecting him to change wholesale, but I was hoping he would at least get toned down to his pre-timeskip hormones, which were a lot more manageable. It's such a painful whiplash watching him go from his relatively mature WCI arc persona to nosebleeding over newspaper photos of girls he once knew.
