I like Morgana in spite of some contrived moments and some stale gags. Though I'm not sure if that's because of the story or his voice actor's charisma.

Oh, I didn't realize that was Cassandra Lee. I really liked her as 60 in Nier.

Considering how pretty poorly translated the script was, you have to hand it to the V As, they really turned shit into gold.

Remember the PS 2 days, where Atlus' translations were held as the standard other companies should work towards? Good times.

Honestly, I didn't even notice how awkward the translation was my first couple times through; the voice actors just sell it so flawlessly. P5's dub may have a shitty script, but it's got some of the best direction and acting of any videogame I've played. It's uncanny.

P5's script didn't seem overly stilted to me, at least not in comparison to most JRPG localizations these no days.

Well ok, beyond the repetitive expository dialogue, which was present in the original as well.

You know, im a little late, but didnt Shido flat out confirm he manipulated Akechi with false praises to keep him under his wing? From the very beginning he planned on killing Akechi, even if Akechu didnt realize this til the last minute

He figured out he joined him explictly to betray him the moment they met.

Essentially his son was so much like him it was obvious he would betray him, so heused him and planned to betray him first.

I don't remember that ever being brought up but it's been like two years since I played Persona 5.

The implication to me was always that Akechi practically volunteered himself to Shido as an assassin, albeit while being a severely traumatized 13 year old.

I like that. Shido never totally figured out Akechi was his son did he? He suspected because he reminded him of his mother, but I don't know if he ever said he was sure (and since they only talked to his shadow, it's possible he never really knew). Despite that...

I think there's a line at the end where the phantom thieves tell Shido and he says something like "Figures..."

More or less.

I checked the scene and he said he had a feeling it was something like that.

Akechi apparently looks a bit like whoever his mom is.

HOW well did the dub actors perform their lines? So well, THIS PLACE, YESTERDAY, is the first time i ever realized the translation was crap.

The script being badly translated is a contested matter in the first place, not a definite fact, though, iirc. Even the site that was the most vocal proponent of the script being borked amount to nitpicking that while maybe valid, was still extremely minor.

Honestly, considering the vast amount of text in the game, having several bad translations don't bother me.

There is a ton of over-explaining in the dialogue which slows down a lot of the scenes, but I assume that's usual for JRP Gs like this. Also, in the dub, a lot of the characters end their questions with "yeah?".

I never found the so called “over explaining” to no be all that bad, either.

I always like to have clarity, and being too subtle can make a story hard to follow.

and also a lot of those issues were in the original script and weren't a translation thing

That's a huge thing with most Japanesetext-heavy games, overexplaining a lot of things, and starting off with extremely vague goals. The script could've used more localization, not translation IMO.

But as said, the cast put in enough effort it kind of works regardless. The fact that Q 2 won't get a dub is incredibly unfortunate.

Eh they wouldn't be able to get a number of V As due to the sheer numbers thry'd have to get.

I was surprised Akihiko had Liam as his VA in P 3 D though. I hear him more in non-anime media due to unions. Just like Travis or Laura, who they also surprisingly got again for the upcoming Catherine Full Body.

Plus the VA change for Junpei because of whats going on with Vic.

[up]Puts the hot springs scene in a very uncomfortable light, doesn't it?

Thank God I stick to the Japanese dub, if only because to spare myself from Fuuka's voice.

I didn't even know Junpei was Vic, but I'm not really familiar with his voice since I never watched dub FMA or most of the other projects he's been on.

A bit of a downer, but what can you do really?
