Most modern zombie moves depict the cause as some kind of virus or bacteria. What if that explanation was used for vampires?
Oh, and forget the supernatural powers. They're not any stronger or faster or prettier than they were before. No fangs, even, they just drink the blood, not suck it or anything. But that doesn't make them evil. Or good, for that matter. They're still just people.
Maybe they're legally accepted members of society. Maybe there's even a synthetic substance of some kind they can drink. Wouldn't necessarily be able to be used for people who need blood transfusions, it's just a sort of hemoglobin-y goop. At first, they'd just distribute it from hospitals. Donations and the like. But there'd be a stink about it. Concerned Individuals wouldn't like it that instead of saving lives, their donations might go to Those Bloodsuckers. Never mind that they WOULD be saving lives - the vampires'. But then the synthetic came along and it was mostly okay. Although some of the vampires wouldn't see why they had to drink this synthetic crap just because some activists were bitching about it.
...man, that train of thought kind of went on for longer than I was expecting it to.
