TF2 still pulls in healthy player numbers in spite of its lack of major updates. Probably because of low system requirements and being free to play. I think it consistently hits Steam's Top 10 every day?
The game is definitely in a bad place due to the bots and Valve's neglect, but I wouldn't say it's dying. And if it was dying the outcry wouldn't be so loud.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, it was "dying" back when Overwatch was first announced, too. It's obviously not in a good place, but it's free, can run on most computers these days, you can see it even on a brief YT trek among memes and what have you... people are playing it and bots are mostly manageable if they do not come in a whole clown car.
How do lizards fly?TF2 reminds me of people who live seriously unhealthy lifestyles and somehow live into their 90s anyway.
I missed the part where that's my problem. It would be downright thriving if Valve hadn't left it to rot. Just deal with the bots and you're set, it really doesn't need much mroe beyond that.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Hell just deal with the bots and port a few weapons and maps in from the community throughout the year. Let the community do most of the work for Valve. I started playing on community servers. They aren’t the greatest with map variety, and often have house rules that destroy balance (no respawn timers for instance) but they were just as playable as back when I started playing back in 2017.

Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Ok, so I've heard that at least 30+ YouTubers have gathered together to start a more organized peaceful protest starting May 26th, 10 A.M. PDT. When that happens everyone would use #Save TF 2 on multiple social media sites and explain how much the game means to them and why it must be saved. They've made it absolutely clear that nobody is to send anything hateful to Valve over their silence.
Oh yeah, and the Medic's VA had also joined us by emailing Valve himself.
"There's no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow forever."The official Twitter made a statement saying they're working on it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Please be more than a band-aid solution.
Why waste time when you can see the last sunset last?Oh thank God
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I'll believe it when I see it. They've claimed they're working on TF2 before so the game isn't necessarily in any less of an update limbo. But, it is nice to see a public acknowledgement, if nothing else.
I missed the part where that's my problem. The official Twitter last posted in 2020. The fact they bothered to say anything means a lot.
Also, I'm pretty sure they re-verified the account. The blue checkmark wasn't there earlier.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Unrelated, but I think I just dodged my first trade scam.
Someone sent a friend invite before asking to trade his australium flamethrower for my tickets and a war paint as he was going to be leaving for the military soon. It turned out I didn't have the official Steam app on my phone so he was willing to wait a week for me to be verified for trading. When the 7 days passed, he asked me to send a friend invite to a "Steam Official" to verify our trade offers (Checking this official's profile showed a Level 0, which I found odd since being a Valve employee they could have put more soul into it). I did, and he asked us to send our offers to a "System Database" which I found suspiciously unnecessary. Eventually, I took a look at Steam's official FAQ and sure enough there were red flags everywhere.
Valve employees don't use chat, middlemen aren't needed for trades, and I found out the person making the offer had more than one account with the same name. I canceled my trade offer, unfriended both of them, and (after reading the official's text threaten to ban me for choosing to quit the offer) blocked communication from them. Pretty sure I made the right call, what do you think?
"There's no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow forever."Biggest things are not being allowed to change your name during during matchmaking, fixing the chat blanking exploit, and allowing multiple votes to be happening simultaneously.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Looks like someone on the dev team has been watching shounic with some of those fixes. Allowing multiple votes at once is a nice change, teams no longer having to take turns kicking bots will help quite a bit in keeping servers from getting overrun.
I missed the part where that's my problem.Wait, did they fix the cheating bot problem?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Not exactly, I played a few games and found only one bot that was spamming the chat for a few seconds before the enemy team kicked it. Some people suggested that it takes time for the bots to have their clients updated. Hopefully it gives us time to vote/ban them more gradually.
Of course, erasing the bots is nothing compared to the killername bug being removed.
"There's no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow forever."It's been about a month since the last bug-fixing update, and we now have 6 days until the Scream Fortress maps return on the October timer. Any guesses as to what ancient bugs they'll fix?
(Also I can easily say that the bots have been largely pushed out of the game now, this also includes a fix that prevents them from DDO Sing the server whenever a successful ban goes through.)

"There's no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow forever."Oh, is it playable again?
More or less. You still have to kick bots whenever they pop up, but they're not nearly as common as they once were and they even occasionally get VAC banned.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI've played a fair number of games recently and only encountered a couple bots. But they apparently weren't functioning since they left super quickly.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? Finally, I can farm my strange weapon again.
Does that mean I don't get the job?I've been playing on Uncletopia servers for a while now. Still, hitreg has issues in them; not as snappy as they should be.
No kidding, recently I tried playing spy and found that my hitreg was so bad that my knife wouldn't even register a backstab against a sniper, which got me killed.
"There's no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow forever."Hitreg in this game has always been a little whack but that might be a lag problem.

Honestly TF 2 showcases the fundamental flaw with online multiplayer games. A game like Super Mario Bros. can still be enjoyed the same now as it was on launch day. Online Multiplayer games will eventually die. TF 2 is one of the greatest games ever made but it is rapidly dying and will inevitably become impossible to play, at least without jumping through major hoops. Online multiplayer games have a time limit.
