I can send the paper to you if you want. Only it's a rather large file because it has quite a few images in it (...stolen from One Manga. I'm ashamed. Very ashamed. I mean, I cited it, but still. It's just that the tankoubons I have are in Chinese and the paper is in English so... urgh.)
By the way, the title of the paper is:
"Sniveling Chessmasters and Drooling Vacuum Cleaners: Representations of Female Violence and Female Empowerment in Hunter X Hunter"
/shamelessplugging
Feminism? What feminism? There are no girls in Hunter X Hunter except for Yaoi Fan Girl Biscuit, and some oneshot ones. And Biscuit is only powerful in her old and ugly form, and she hates that form, so she doesn't even use it that much.
I don't have an in depth knowledge of Hunter X Hunter, so feel free to prove me wrong. I read as far as the nen being discovered and them leaving that battle tower thing, and most other knowledge comes from TV Tropes.
Edit: *raises hand* ooh! ooh! me! me! send me the file! me!

All right. Send me your e-mail and I will.
EDIT: There IS feminism in Hunter X Hunter. I know it's unbelievable... but there is. There absolutely is.
EDITEDIT: Oh, and you'll probably appreciate it more if you've read a good chunk of the chimera ant arc. More specifically, up until Komugi nearly gets killed by the dragon rain attack thingie, since that's where I read up to when writing the paper.

There are other female characters in Hunter X Hunter, but they form a very small proportion of the recurring cast.
Well, from what I heard, the females that ARE shown are strong, they just don't show up much. I know I thought Ponzu, a girl who could control bees was friggin Bad Ass...only she didn't make it to the finals...
there's feminism in Hunter x Hunter? Odd, here I was thinking it was one of the most misogynistic manga out there. I mean, there are only four female characters with any real power are the aforementioned Biscuit, Machi, Shizuka (whose powers are sewing and cleaning respectively) and Palm.
... I'd think I'd like to see this as well.

Oh. Ponzu... Poor girl. May she R.I.P.
Gilphon: I agree with you that it's insanely misogynistic, but there IS feminism in there. (In fact I elaborate on the points you touched on.) Send me your e-mail and I'll mail it to you.

Yeah, the Other Wiki filled me in on that. That is what made me pretty much say 'good bye' to Hunter X Hunter.
Testosterone Poisoning as applied to manga. Niizuma Eiji ROCKS!!!
In case you guys didn't notice, chapter 76's out.
So finally this comedy manga arc is finally coming to an end. I guess the fans will stop complaining now. I was hoping Tanto won't end so fast to prove the fans wrong, or at least it won't end that badly. I guess Miura will painted as the bad guy again for pushing them to do comedy too much. But I still don't get why we have to go through this arc. Hopefully the aesop will be coming soon.
Knew Tanto wouldn't last long. Kinda makes sense. Poor Takagi, the stupid series is denying him his bed
Oddly enough, it didn't bother me at the time, but what the hell was Miura thinking? I mean, pushing a writher who has gotten a reputation for mature, complicated stories to do a comedy series aimed at young children, despite the fact that he doesn't really show any interest in doing one? What the hell made him think that was a good idea?
All things considered, I think it's amazing and a testament to both Shujin and Miura (and I guess Mashiro too, but I don't feel like he was pushing himself to hard for this one) that they were able to make Tanto as good as it was. And now, at least they'll be able to give it a natural ending, which a lot of manga lack.

Hattori is EPICNESS INCARNATE. He's so my favorite character right now, right below Niizuma Eiji.
Speaking of Niizuma, I almost teared up when he proclaimed Ashirogi his biggest rival. He's still stubbornly believing in them even though Tanto sucks ass........
Things are looking up. Can't wait to see what they come up with next.
A natural ending after even less then ten chapters? I guess this would be one of those things people will go about saying it was Too Good to Last.
Too bad for them. Well, I'm glad that they might get rid of Tanto. It just never made sense to do it in the first place. Sure, there are many instances where a mangaka does a completely different series once the first one ended, but not everyone is so multi-talented.
Well. Just look at Blue Dragon Ral Grad. Not even the genius combo could make that last.

It started quite nice. And booby queen was sex-tastic!
The shocking change from Death Note to blatant fanservice just turned me off completely.

As for me, I was there mostly for the fanservice. The Jojo-ish battles were a nice bonus.
Also, here is where the authors' sexism shines the most. To me, it Crosses the Line Twice
All together now...F-I-N-A-L-L-Y!
Now they can crank out something good!
Maybe they won't necessarily QUIT Tanto...
It seems more likely they'll just revamp it. It would be kinda cool to see an actual, if somewhat meta example of Cerebus Syndrome .
Also, the 'It's not a wig!' line struck me as rather cute. The 'I don't know about that' struck me as kinda stupid.
Also, since Miyoshi and Takagi are all married now, guess they've reached the top tier, eh?
Wasn't that similar to one of their original plans for a gag manga? with all the assassins?
So am I. If you're willing to show us, I'm sure we'd be willing to read it.
