Even then there was Zambot 3. Piloting REALLY DID FUCKING SUCK for the kids and the kids were even younger than Evangelion.

In fact, I daresay Zambot 3's cruelty and abuse of its child characters is very much THE thing anyone even remembers about it.

There's a difference between a show being the first to display a trope, and a show being the one that popularized the trope.

I do believe Evangelion probably did popularize the idea of a mecha pilot suffering for it, but it definitely was not the first to show it.

That is very much true. Zambot 3 didnt get really famous until later and it was sorta really obscure otherwise.

So it would be more accurate to say that it being the Trope Codifier for such a deconstruction is why it forms the Genre Turning Point?

So, an entry for Yandere was just added to Naoko Akagi's character entry, but she already has a Love Makes You Crazy entry and I think that's more fitting as Naoko isn't in the show long enough to truly establish her as a yandere IMO. What do you think?

Yeah, Yandere doesn't really apply to her.

Reading the Evageeks wiki page on Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu and it claims she isn't blonde in the anime continuity as a contrast to Shinji Ikari Raising Project. Here in TV Tropes, we claim Kyoko is a brunette in the anime. Since she was shadowed in her only appearance in the anime, how can we assume she's a brunette?

The shading of her hair in the hospital scene where she's talking to the doll, which is in fact the profile image on said article; while it's technically tinted blue like everything else and thus the exact color is hard to pin down, it's still too dark for it to have been intended to be originally blonde or any similarly light hair color.

I guess that's fair. Wonder why Osamu Takahashi, the mangaka behind Shinji Ikari Raising Project, opted to make Kyoko blonde?

Perhaps he was following the example of Sadamoto's manga, which depicts her hair as "white", i.e. the B&W format's common visual coding for light hair colors (usually blonde).

This is an informative retrospective of Anno's career. It gives a fair overview of his career and it has some good animation as well.

I am about an hour in myself. So far it is about Anno's career, it starts from where he started his career to how most of his animations were made. It also clears up the misconception that Anno hated otaku.

Curious, since I haven't watched that one (yet) - did you watch Bennett the Sage's video that was linked on the previous page? If you did, do the two vids hew pretty close to each other on their information?

I found a Google doc that links to various sources. It seems legitimate to me from what I have seen so far. Please keep in mind, this from the latter video.

Edit: The author from the latter video linked those sources. I am going to ask around to see if someone else can help me verify them.

Man, I should really finish the anime one of these days. NGE is quite possibly the anime that has been in my anime watchlist the longest, for well over a decade by now.

After I finish Mob Psycho 100 and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, as a part of best of 2022 binge, and maybe Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Code Geass, I will definitely pick this up again!

Oh, I forgot to check the thread. I should have known someone was already concerned about the recent edits.

I apologize for acting rashly in reverting some of the edits. It was a gut reaction on my behalf.

No worries, I was actually going to revert all of them if there was enough consensus.

They've added more to her Character sheet that shows some sort of contempt. I'd revert and report them for Edit Warring.

Yeah, I'm about to wipe all their edits (sorry, ~The Amazing Blachman, that's going to include yours as well) with an edit reason to cut out the character bashing. I'll hold off on a suspension for now.

I support the decision to cut those edits, they are clearly character bashing.
