Pokémon General Thread

A few years back players were reporting it. Pretty sure it still isn’t an issue, but it did convince some players to avoid Wonder Trade altogether.

so I looked it up a saw that it's was apparently from a faulty game cartridge/3ds than made bad eggs so it was not someone that was making bad eggs on purposes.

One new playthrough of mine is to see how many Pokémon I can catch and fully evolve without doing any trading.

Kind of a random topic, but are there any Pokemon you often misremember the type of? Sometimes I still get caught off guard finding that Shellder and Seel are pure Water and not Water/Ice like their evos (fun fact: there are no NFE Ice-types in Gen 1). I also often have to mentally correct myself when seeing a Gligar or Gliscor in-game that it's Ground/Flying and not a Poison-type or something. Also sometimes get mixed up on Skorupi and Drapion because of how it oddly changes from Poison/Bug to Poison/Dark (not helping that Aaron the Bug specialist used a Drapion as his ace Pokemon).

I keep thinking Beartic is Water/Ice I guess?

I can't really see Beartic as Water, but I could imagine an alternate universe where Beartic is Ice/Fighting considering how the Ice Gym in BW was filled with Black Belts and Brycen himself is some kind a martial arts expert.

Gliscor is a Ground/Flying/Bug/Dark/Poison type.

Like how Flygon is a Ground/Dragon/Bug/Flying type and Dhelmise is a Grass/Ghost/Steel/Water type.

I know. Most of them anyway. There are people who hack their pokemon a little more carefully so that the game can't immediately tell that they're fake and block them, though, such as the guy that uploaded like a thousand shiny Noiverns. Those ones are harmless and I don't mind getting them.

Iirc it's less carelessness and more uploading stuff on purpose that makes the game crash. Be it avatars or names or other weird stuff.

TIL that Glalie's Japanese name is based on the onigiri, the snack food that it resembles.

Even yesterday I got a shiny Solgaleo from the wonder trade in ultra sun based on the tcg cosmic eclipse set, so by the games system its fair game as that's the only legal way to get one shiny.

Sure, but good luck getting to them before the others crash your game.

Oh my God zedlax is sawing logs around the competition!

One idea I had was game freak introducing the bad egg pokemon. It would be a bug type with a shell that looks a egg it can curl up into an egg shape ball.

In other news, Bulbapedia is under new management. A certain busy gym leader/Elite Four member has made everything monochrome in color. I hope you weren't planning on looking at anything color-coded today.

I was, I finished building a doubles team today using the wiki and Smogon only for the format to change.

Oh well. I’m looking at Twitch streams and Calyrex is rampant. This is going to take some time.

I still remember 2022's one. (Which is a duck.)

I'm playing through B2W2, and I've now found out that in Japanese Marlon speaks in a Kyushu dialect. That's the southern island of Japan that Hoenn is based on, which does in fact lead to speculation that Marlon is from Hoenn.

Kyushu accents aren't common in fiction, so funny enough the only reason I recognized what it was was because Sapphire (May's counterpart) in the Pokemon Special manga also speaks in a Kyushu dialect. Though her's was way thicker and harder to understand. I literally had no idea what she was saying half the time at first until I figured it out and got used to it.

Bad Pokémon in the GTS never crashed my game to look at, the trade attempt would just make the GTS disconnect. That was for ORAS though, not SM.

that's because of gen 7's trainer customization and profile picture being the real culprit of why the GTS is crashing in the first place and not hacked pokemon, gen 6 uses a more simplistic customization picture on the GTS so it doesn't have that issue.

Making the most of the 3DS' Wonder Trade system, so I spent the past two days Breeding Pokemon I haven't yet sent out on my list. Back in 2020 I decided to do a list of Pokemon to Wonder Trade for when the 3DS Online shuts down with a few tweaks in 2021 and 2022. When it was announced that the eShop was going to close down I downloaded Pokemon Bank and started my plans. I started the list in September 2023 with a Deerling themed WT and the list was done on March 30th. So far I have Traded 1406 Pokemon, all single handed.
