Basically Johnny is lukewarm on and disappointed by the story, but finds the gameplay and content phenomenal.

Started out Niche in Ubers until it dropped to OU and has been good-decent there ever since.

Manaphy existing makes Phione feel even weirder to me. It's stats aren't particularly great and compared to it's predecessor...eh?

Absolutely. Base 80 across the board would be really good for little cup, on top of a decent-ish movepool

What about Little Cup Ubers, with Pokemon like Scyther, Tangela, Sneasel, and all the other 1-stage Pokemon who got evolutions later on?

Also, Happiny really should be the Chansey/Blissey of Little Cup, it deserves better than to be the black sheep of the line, competitively. Here's my idea of reworking the Chansey line's stats:

Happiny: 150/5/5/35/75/30 Total: 300
Chansey: 200/10/10/55/105/45 Total: 425
Blissey: 250/15/15/75/135/60 Total: 550

Happiny was made to nerf the Chansey line in little cup. Good riddance.

Well, I agree that Chansey is far too strong for Little Cup, I just think that Happiny is far too weak for Little Cup, and there is an ideal medium there between the two.

I think Phione is meant to be more like a baby Pokemon that cannot evolve.

Phione isn't a pre-evolution, it can breed to make more Phiones.

Lore-wise, Manaphies are basically just extremely rare mutant Phiones, not a separate evolutionary stage.

isn't it the temperature of the water that determines whether a given egg hatches into Manaphy or Phione, and canonically all the current regions are only conducive to Phione? which still makes no sense, Hawaii and New York have wildly different water temperatures, but im pretty sure that's the explanation they gave.

At least Diancie and Carbink have the novelty of a legendary Pokemon being related to a normal one.

Sort of. Phione's Dex entries imply it prefers warm water, while Manaphy's Dex entries say it's born on the cold ocean floor. That could imply it prefers cold waters, but you could use the "ocean floor" part to justify why you can't hatch one out of a daycare.

Well, that explains why Manaphy couldn't be hatched in Undella or Azure Bays... maybe north-Galarian waters would be cold enough to foster the ideal hatching conditions.
