I just found it in a horde of the things in the ice cave I forget the name of.

I should note that before then I spent too long trying to hatch a shiny ekans via masuda method, and had no success at all. Even with increased odds, it's still a crapshoot.

Is it just me, or does Smogon seem to be a lot more ban-happy this generation than previous ones?

Incoming wall text:

Remember when I mentioned I was making that version of Pokemon that would include Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, as well as the ability to start a New Game Plus kinda thing with your old Pokemon?

Okay, here's the deal (gonna link this to Egg if he comes back as well, but I want your guys's feedback too).

At this point Emerald has really grown on me, but I'm still not sure whether to use Sapphire or Emerald as the base. You know, in the event I ever actually find someone to teach me how to script since these tutorials are pretty useless.

Pros for using Emerald:

  • Nicer graphics (for the GBA, anyway).
  • Added game mechanics (Flame Body/Magma Armour helping hatch Eggs, stuff like that).
  • In-game link compatibility with all five Gen III games.
  • Lots of cool post-game content (it may cheat like a motherfucker but the Battle Frontier is still really fun as long as you occasionally cheat back once in a while).
  • All three Box Legendaries naturally catchable (less coding needed for me).
  • Same goes for the fossils.
  • Villain plots make more sense (Magma at the Volcano and Aqua at the Weather Institute).
  • At least doesn't have the shitty "oh no it's bright I guess" thing that Ruby does as a climax.

Cons for using Emerald:

  • Severely limits porting compatibility, one of the main draws (I hope) of the hack, due to its encryption, preventing any game that is not Emerald from being ported properly without leet knowledge like mine or Egg's computer whatsit which may or may not get done.
  • Encryption also makes it impossible to carry over items.
  • I reaaaally don't like Wallace, and so far efforts to replace him with Steven have been slow (read: I can't figure out how to fucking script because these tutorials suck).
  • I really really don't like Wallace. Juan's okay. Don't like Wallace. He's a lame, easy Champion. He'd be a threat at higher levels, sure, but Steven was the champion they were building up so it should have been him. As I mentioned before, I'm still trying to switch his and Steven's places (maybe Wallace could be a Frontier Brain? That would actually suit him), but until that becomes feasible...
  • Disappointment at not being able to have a big fancy showdown with the Box Legendary and catch it at the climax.
  • There's a glitch where if you're scrolling through any of your items in any pocket, the game will freeze and crash rather spectacularly, and this happens a lot. A lot a lot. I've had to constantly save even more than I usually do just in case digging for a potion too quickly confuses the damn thing.

Pros for using Sapphire:

  • The big one: Porting is made much easier due to lack of encryption. Also has direct compatibility with Ruby, since they're structurally identical.
  • The other big one: Items can be ported.
  • Gameplay was paced better towards the end, whereas Emerald kinda dragged a little. The Magma Base in Emerald was okay, but you've gotta go fight Kyogre. Gotta catch 'em all.
  • Team Aqua's fuckup > Team Magma's fuckup. A giant deluge heralded by a sea god is a lot more intimidating and more of an immediate threat than things being really hot out which will be bad in a few weeks eventually but not right away because lest we forget, Hoenn is a tropical island.
  • Steven is rightfully the champion. Wallace makes an okay Gym Leader.
  • No fucking item glitch. That is such goddamn bullshit.
  • Kyogre naturally catchable as the plot progresses, instead of out of the way. (This could be fixed in Emerald if I knew how to script, but... yeah).
  • Less space used means I have more room to overwrite things when I eventually create Kanto and Johto as well.

Cons for using Sapphire:

  • Not quite as polished-looking as Emerald, visually speaking. The graphics are usually about the same, but it's a bit jarring to suddenly go back to Sapphire's blocky text after playing Emerald for a bit.
  • More scripting will be needed since fewer Legendaries are naturally available.
  • Post-game content is lacking, if you're not a nut like me that likes to complete the Pokedex.
  • The loose ends that Sapphire leaves around kinda bother me. Like the Fossil Maniac that was clearly meant to be something (and later was in Emerald), but in Sapphire he's just kinda there.
  • Less in-game linking capacity with other games.
  • No Johto expansion.

So is what glitch only in your hack, or does it actually exist in raw Emerald?

Raw Emerald. Every version of the ROM I've found. It happens less on a computer emulator compared to my phone one, but it's still irritating when it pops up. I've encountered it a few times in the original cartridge version, too.

I don't think it's ever happened, any of the times I've played it. I mostly play the 386 hack on an Android emulator.

Can you blame them? Unova introduced power creep with thier new Pokemon, but Gen 6 and Megas went from a creep to a mad sprint of power. Greninja was requested for a while, but Greninja was right at the tip of Broken and Balance.

...Until ORAS gave it Gunk Shot and Low Kick, eliminating many, many answers to common Greninja checks of old, like Clefable.

That's quite an interesting glitch. Maybe I'll ask around, see if anyone else has seen it.

Anyone else wanna discuss Drayano's hacks with me? I can't keep myself from hyping them.

Seriously, name a Pokemon that you consider to be underpowered, not getting enough attention from Game Freak or just plain boring. It gets fixed.

Contrary Grass/Dragon Serperior with Leaf Storm and Draco Meteor? You know it. Klink____ getting a varied physical movepool, including staples like Earthquake? Got you there. Cinccino getting a choice of Skill Link and Technician in-game and every multi-hit move to abuse it? Hell yeah.

Oh and the significant fights all have six pokemon and abuse weather and other such annoying things so if you're gonna nuzlocke this you'll have to EV train.

Dunsparce.

If you say that it gets a dragon-type evolved or mega form then I will explode in anger

Furret gets... think 90 attack and 100 speed, higher HP, Sucker Punch, Dizzy Punch, Super Fang.

Much more usable but still a Com Mon.

Mightyena gets 110 A, 80 SPA and 100 speed, bringing her to a stat total of almost 500, gets Intimidate / Moxie, Sucker Punch, and a moveset that consists of every fang in the game + most physical and status dark attacks.

Pretty much a Dark-type Arcanine and an incredible sweeper.

Kricketune I actually didn't use in Storm Silver because he was too strong early game. Technician, 111 attack and 81 speed, Bug Bite, Swords Dance, plus Cut is now a physical Grass-type move that hits for 60 to abuse Technician.

Dunsparce is already not-useless and interesting.

[up] Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Acceptable. I guess. Of course, with everything else buffed, those upgrades (of which only Dizzy Punch is a new move, actually) will probably still make it overlooked in favor of literally anything else.

Okay, curious now. Luvdisc!

Dunsparce has Serene Grace / Rattled, higher attack and defense, and horn drill. I am offended by the notion that he was useless. Serene grace is very abusable in game.

Luvdisc got buffed up to par for a standard Water-type pokemon.

59 30 77 89 99 113 stats. 467, up from 330

Dustox is now a tanky special sweeper. Shield dust / compound eyes, Sp A of 80 up from 50, def spdef to 85 105, speed to 85 from 65.

To abuse his Compoundeyes, you can now have Hurricane.

Plus a whole lot of other fun shit.

Bug buzz? Quiver dance? Screen? Psychic? Toxicshock? All there.

Beautifly has a similar set, except with a SPA of 105, Grass and Air attacks over Psychic and Poison ones.

And... higher attack? Wow, fuck you, Drayano, for what purpose? To make U-turns hit harder? Because I'm going to just spam U-Turn after two quiver dances.
