I believe this last year was one of the worst fighting seasons seen yet in Afghanistan. It’s going to be another bad one this year too, most likely.

They should have sent a poet. She sounds awesome. The next US president, I imagine, will increase the US troop presence once again.
We'll see. There has been a lot of approval across the board for the Afghanistan withdrawal so far.
I don't think anyone really wants the Joes outta Iraq and the neighboring areas, though, due to one insurgency on one end, and a very angry state on the other. Syria is self-explanatory.

Germany's soldiers of misfortune
The once mighty Bundeswehr is looking increasingly threadbare.
If it sounds like an exaggeration to compare Germany's Bundeswehr to “The Gang that Couldn’t Shoot Straight,” look no further than the army’s standard-issue assault rifle, Heckler & Koch’s G36. The government decided to scrap the weapon after discovering that the gun misses its target if it’s too hot.
“There is neither enough personnel nor materiel, and often one confronts shortage upon shortage,” Hans-Peter Bartels, a Social Democrat MP charged with monitoring the Bundeswehr for parliament, concluded in a report published at the end of January. “The troops are far from being fully-equipped.”
Once one of the fiercest (and most brutal) fighting forces on earth, today’s German army increasingly looks more like a volunteer fire department — last month, mountain troops were dispatched to shovel snow from roofs in Bavaria — than a modern military machine.
On a recent trip to Lithuania, where about 450 German soldiers are stationed as part of a NATO mission to deter Russian aggression, U.S. officials were dismayed to discover Bundeswehr personnel communicating on unsecure mobile phones due to a shortage of secure radio equipment.
...
Fewer than 20 percent of Germany’s 68 Tiger combat helicopters and fewer than 30 percent of its 136 Eurofighter jets could fly in late 2018. Pilots, frustrated that they can’t fly, are quitting.

All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48CANSOFCOM (Canadian Special Operations Forces Command) had a job ad a few weeks ago (ended today) on a position for a security specialist as a civilian.
I'd almost finish it, if that... maid didn't distract me at the last minute. I don't know if that opportunity can come up again.
The Do D gave Boeing permission to sell the Growler in addition to the Super Hornet. The pressure is on.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleSupport our troops, eh?

BOHICA.
I really wish more vets and current military would stop supporting these yahoos. They almost never have any of there interests in mind.
Who watches the watchmen?
Trump has also pissed off more senior general officers within a couple years than any other presidency.
Here's to hoping that development continues.
Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies. The moment the news got out that the US OK'd possible sales of the Growler to Finland, Saab immediately releases an ad for the Gripen E EW capabilities.
On a more general note, you don't hear much from Lockheed or Rafale right now.

Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleI mean, Lockheed is sitting pretty with those sweet, sweet F-35 sales numbers, isn't it?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Lockheed would be sitting pretty even without the F-35. It’s almost easier to ask what they aren’t working on.

They should have sent a poet. We've got until 2021 to speculate on what gets the contract in the end. With all the fighters getting swapped, it's going to be a bumpy ride for the decisionmakers.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleAt least 4 American veterans among group arrested in Haiti with arsenal of weapons and tactical gear
Police in Port-au-Prince arrested five Americans, two Serbians, and one Haitian man at a police checkpoint on Sunday, according to The Miami-Herald. The men told police they were on a "government mission" but did not specify for which government, according to The Herald.
Putin being Putin.
Disgusted, but not surprisedTrying to play wizard of Oz, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain? You know the one blatantly violating the INF treaty."
Who watches the watchmen? Also as a distraction from Russia's internal issues.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAh! A functional internet connection at last!
I ain't dead yet!
Good news! I am adapting fairly well to the barracks and Militarism as a whole!
Bad news! Some of the Capital's First Command threats did happen this February and a there have been at least 4 police officer assassinations confirmed and one unrelated in São Paulo.
Now for something more military related, damn the barrack life!
Being a fairly easygoing person netted me some good things with my C Os, specially since I am bringing them the foodstuff my home state back with me when I go to visit my family, mostly meant that they have become fairly more friendly towards me and less strict on me.
Also the resident jackass in my platoon has been treating my fairly nicer after I gave him some home brew desert as a thank you gift for the favor I asked him for, basically the corporal responsible to deliver my head cover in time and he was the only one with a spare one for the solemnity of one of our command bases.
Said resident jackass has been a lot nicer after me, him and one of my platoon members have been in the local whorehouse. I guess that booty call is indeed a rite of passage, specially since my other platoon members started to respect me more due to catching some tail.
Due to having a heavy dose of DAT ASS genes in my family...I am the target of the Male Gaze from the other members in my platoon. This is something that is both funny and fairly embarrassing for me.
I blame the mix of an army of blue balls and the outright lack of female effective in my platoon.
So far the training has been exactly like the famous terminal lance strip.

Johan Cosar was sentenced in Swiss courts for fighting against ISIL a few days ago.
Best of luck to her. The Taliban are not shy about killing those who oppose them publicly.
