I loved Chilled.
The fact that he's played by Gon (who's other characters are nothing like him) actually makes him even funnier now.
To me at least.
One Strip! One Strip! As does the fact that Gon actively campaigned to play this character for the sole purpose of hamming it up.
Oh the rest of these eps are gonna be a *blast*. I missed these three idiots bouncing off of each other.
That the sing-song "Now you DIE-IE-IE-IE-IE!" was in the script as a mere "Now you die!" says all you need to know about Gon's performance, honestly.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Yep. Never underestimate the power of a hamtastic villain performance. A podcast I enjoy, Red Panda Adventures featured a supervillain in its second episode named Professor Zombie.
She was intended to be a one-off Starter Villain, fought to cap off new sidekick the Flying Squirrel's first night patrol. However the power of Professor Zombie's voice actress's scenery chewing was such that she not only became a recurring member of the Rogues Gallery but eventually a Big Bad in her own right.
Imagine TFS making something like Chilled for original content as a recurring foe or something just to reuse the concept/let Gon go ham.

Small issue: Happened upon the Therapy Is for the Weak page. It lists Dragonball Abridged as the Trope Namer. I didn't recall that line showing up at any point, so I did a quick search through the transcript for every episode, movie and special. The line does not appear anywhere. Normally I'd probably just remove the example, but I'd like to know why they think this was the trope namer for something that it isn't.
I kinda hate Episode of Bardock for kinda undermining the previous special. And apparently it got retconned anyway by the "canon" Broly movie.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Technically, it got retconned by Dragon Ball Minus - Which was then incorporated into the canon Broly movie.
Either way, it's a weird thing to do given that Toriyama clearly loved the Bardock special. He liked it so much that it became one of very few anime-exclusive materials to get incorporated into the manga. In interview, he praised the special for being the kind of story he wouldn't be able to write himself.
And then. Many, many years later. He tried to write it himself. And proved himself right.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Episode of Bardock is the second Bardock movie. It's the first one, Bardock - The Father of Goku, that was canonized.

Personally I don't mind Episode of Bardock as like it's own thing mostly tying into the Heroes and Xenoverse side of the franchise.
Though really, as dumb as the premise is, there is some cruel irony in the fact that Bardock getting some form of catharsis against Frieza's race ended up creating the legend that would inspire fear in Frieza later, and eventually lead to the near extinction of the Saiyans.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)Toriyama Bardock is not an ass with his kid and partner, but everything else is not that much at odds with the special.
Back to the movies with Cooler 2. And the obligatory Kaiser's "FUCK THIS MOVIE!"
Burning love!F in the chat for Vegeta's dick.
God, I can't wait for when they get to Broly.
I've mentioned before that this was literally my first exposure to DBZ, so the fact that the reaction to it is FUCK THIS MOVIE kinda hurts.
One Strip! One Strip!I don't like the movie, but I know people that swear by it. I will say its a great showing for Piccolo.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireYeah but which movie isn't?
Maybe Super: Broly and Battle of Gods, perhaps.
El sexo es temporal. LA PENITENCIA ES ETERNA!He didn't really get to be cool in Super Android 13.
Also, weirdly, I just realized he's not in any of the Buu Saga movies.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)It's funny how Piccolo got a great showing in the early movies but then fell off, and now the most recent movie has him as the full-on protagonist. It's like a return to form, but only for the movies.
I've never seen the movie of Resurrection F, just the anime version. Does he do mostly do the same stuff, minus the dying?
Edited by diddyknux on Jun 3rd 2023 at 12:26:34 PM
It's pretty much the same minus Piccolo dying for Gohan (again) and Tagoma simply got airlocked for suggesting to avoid Goku and Earth instead of just being a one-off vehicle for Ginyu.

Burning love!In the movie, Tagoma dies before Freeza even starts training, and Shisami is the only notable Freeza Soldier. Shisami fights Piccolo and seems to be winning until Gohan goes Super Saiyan to one-shot him.
And that's the end of the mook fight.

It's still insane to me that they re-released the Resurrection 'F' movie paired with a preview for the Future Trunks arc that re-animated Goku vs Freeza on Namek.
Easily one of the weirdest moves they've ever made, especially since it came after the anime version of Res 'F'. At least it was an opportunity to redo scenes from Goku vs Freeza with modern animation and better art, that was cool.

Shame they never got to Bio Broly.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Taka commentary for 26-27. Opens with a little joke that probably would have been in the Buu Saga.
Taka's inclusion is definitely adding something to these, though I get the impression it's because of the fun they apparently had doing this particular special at the time.
