Something cool I forgot to talk about was that issue #50 had cameos of other Sega characters in the Overlander/Mobian war section. They were Han and Genjuro from Guardian Heroes, Ristar and Astal, the last of whom apparently cameos a lot in the series.

Read some of the post-Endgame issues and wow this is bad.

Might skip to Flynn.

Yeah, the post-Endgame stuff can get pretty out there and the writing and characterization can be off the wall.

If you’re interested in seeing what happened without wanting to go through all the pain of actually reading it, I recommend this liveblog. It’s fairly in-depth, and is done by someone who’s familiar with both the material and the behind the scenes drama (and despite the title, she is not at all fond of Penders). At the present, she’s almost done with the pre-Flynn stuff.

issue 60 introduced the Iron Queen, who became the Big Bad post-200.

She also covers Knuckles, case you don't want to read that hot mess.

I kind of want to give it a fair shake since I really like the idea of a post-Robotnik world, but I might just check out the blog if I'm not clicking with it.

This noir issue is pretty good, as was the Brave New World special. And hey look, it's Sonic's robot parents we will never ever see again.

I personally hate that Jon Gray gets sidled with so much undeserved hate for "the slap." Hes just the guy that drew it, and I kinda really love his art style.

If there's one thing that defines the post-Robotnik era for me it's that the guy drawing has a hard time keeping Sonic on model.

It's not a bad comic and the globe trotting adventure feel is kind of what I'm here fo but I might just skip to Flynn at this point.

So yeah I skipped to issue 160 and there's good dialogue and on-model art and Shadow not being an edgelord. Think I'll just go from here.

Wow even when Ian Flynn started his Robotnik was a totally evil bastard. That Egg Grape stuff is legit chilling. So many dead Echidnas.

And that's the first arc of the Flynn run. So much is happening one after the other and all the characters have distinct voices. It's like cape comics where you drop in on an interesting world and it takes the right writer to breathe new life into it. Definitely liking what I'm reading thus far.

[up][up] There were a couple different art styles before everything became consistent, I think post-160 or so.

It's also kind of hilarious how Ian Flynn is cutting a bloody swath through the supporting cast.

Sir Connery? Dead. Ancient Walkers? Dead. Robotnik's daughter? Dead. I know Mogul and Naugus live but then they get sent to the Egg Grapes along with the Destructix (who all get shot by the Egg Phoenix) and the spider ninja guys who die in the Egg Grapes.

[up]The Destructix are still alive. As are most anyone sent to the Egg Grapes. Sonic and co are able to save nearly everyone there before there's any permanent damage.

Except Charmy, whom Ian Flynn gave brain damage in order to make him like his game counterpart.

(He later apologized)

Oh and some Echidnas died too I guess. I wonder if that's where Penders got his narc on about the series.

Hilariously, Sonic The Comic's Charmy was pretty darn close to how he wound up in the games before Sonic Heroes was even a thing.

Hi guys. I've barely read the comics, but I'm a big fan of the games.

EDIT: I seem to be in the wrong place. I didn't realize we had a separate thread for IDW Comics.

Still hoping for Klonoa to get a new game... or a movie like this

Thanks Ken Penders put up a top ten list of pre-Ian Flynn stories and I kinda want to go back and read where I left off now.

@ kkhoho: You think maybe, just maybe the writers were inspired by Fleetway Charmy and made that his official characterization?

Been reading some issues of this on and off, both the main series and Universe.

I dropped out years ago in my youth, but remember the early, more wacky days of the comic.

I remember Super Sonic vs Hyper Knuckles. I remember Mecha Sonic vs Mecha Knuckles.

I took a look at the Sonic Adventure adaptation back in the day.

As for the post reboot era, Pirate Plunder Panic was fun (I can see what Flynn means when he says he hates Marine, but finds her fun to write, which is probably better than being hated or too well liked).

And the stuff with the Werehog (especially Sonic's initial transformation) was good. Sally and Amy planting themselves between berserk Sonic and Mighty was beautiful.

Archie had a good run...with some bad moments true, but still. T'is a shame so much behind the scenes crap (or not so behind the scenes) ruined things, but it seems like Flynn cleaned up everything as best he could. Guy knows how to turn coal into diamond and shit into gold.

And you know, maybe it's better Archie Sonic is done. It's a shame they never got to complete many of their stories (twice at that) but now that they're at IDW, they have a clean slate and no old continuity to bog them down.

....I'm gonna miss Flynn's versions of Honey the Cat, Bean, Bark and Nack though. Especially those first three. Sega is shooting themselves in the foot by not letting Flynn use them.

Oh brother.

I just found out that Ken Penders is set to self-publish The Lara-Su Chronicles: Beginnings, which collects all the Mobius: 25 Years Later stories from Sonic 131-144, his story "The Storm", and other stuff for Comic Con 2020.

I want to say he'll get in trouble for this, but he apparently owns all the M:25YL variations of the Sonic characters?

Whatever. We have IDW Sonic now.

Mobius 25 Years Later is kinda sad to read nowadays since the peaceful future got erased twice.
