Hm, where have Templars' MP damage skills gone? =( That's the only thing I'm missing, otherwise the Paladins seem quite complete.

I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos!

Update, yo. Consider Hunters and Paladins pretty much complete, ready to move on to Red Mages.

Yes, I know I skipped Monk, this is because Clockwork said that he'd do some work on them for me, so I'm holding them off for now.

That said, I'm seriously considering moving the Project to TV Tropes as a Troper Works project. This will allow me to allow you to allow the TV Tropes community to edit the project and put in Ideas as they see fit, and allow me to remove them as I see unfit. I don't see why we can't. Comments?

Sounds like a good idea, if you're not getting much feedback at the other site.

Typically, the more people working on a project, the quicker it can get done.

Hmm. Red Magic is going to be tricky to work out, but it at least has to cover Cure, Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder.

… Soooo, yeah, I moved the thing to TV Tropes now. Old forum be damned. I guess I better elaborate on what we're doing with it.

Feel free to make contributions as you see fit. Fix errors, do some tweaking, add features, help further the game along, whatever. If I don't like it, I'll edit it until I do. And if you don't like my edit, then we can argue violently over whose edit is the best.

…Wait, no, that's bad.

In general, since it's my project, I have the final word. But don't worry, I'm not a horribly despicable person who can't handle changes to the rules and believes that his way is the best way ever. If you think a feature needs to be changed in order to balance the game, then change it, if I disagree, I'll contact you and we can discuss it politely.

Aside from that, go apeshit you guys, consider me putting IAT on TV Tropes giving it to you to work on. I'm still heading the project of course, but now we can all work on it together, if you want to work on it, that is. =D

An interesting discussion came up with a friend of mine during an MSN convo concerning this game.

"Where's the alignment system? Are you making that?"

My answer: "No."

I'm taking the "Star Wars RPG" Approach to the alignment system in that it's assumed that the character you make and play is the "Hero" or at least "Not the main Villian." Alignment never really had a place in the Final Fantasy mythos outside of "Protagonists" and "Antagonists." And thus, fittingly, the Law/Chaos-Good/Evil system that we're all familiar with in D&D has been removed.

I might consider adding a space instead that's labelled "Persona" or some such, to at least describe how your character acts or what his/her goals are as a replacement, or might not even add such a thing at all.

Minor update to try and push this thing along. Tweaked the Races, particularly the Gria and Moogles concerning their Wings (AGAIN!). I gave the Gria actual flight, but only in limited amounts, and gave the Moogles a boost for jumping, mainly. I think this should cover the races for now. But I'm concerned about balance issues.

…Er…

Hm…

Hrm……

…OH!… No…

Alright, how should Red Mages work? I can't exactly figure out what to give them? Should they have access to all fields of Magick, or just 2? Or maybe 3? How should they progress in power? Because they aren't supposed to reach the level of a Black or White mage. What about weapons and armor? Hell, don't get me started on techniques.

…Halp.

I would just give make it so they potentially have access to the basic tier of all four types of Magick (not counting Blue Magick), unlocking a new basic tier when regular mages would get a higher tier of the type of magick they use exclusively. Probably in the order Black->White->Green->Arcane or possibly the order which they choose (possibly disallowing Arcane Magick for the first one since Arcanist is an advance class).

OMIGOD IS THAT A REPLY!?

-leaps-

-Face Fault-

Actually, that sounds like a good idea, which has actually given me a potentially better one.

How about, the Red Mage begins play having access to 2 tiers of Magick at their choice and learns spells as usual, with the arbitrary requirement that they can't have all of their spells in one tier, and must balance it out as required of their certain discipline (let's say, no more than 3 spells known per tier and tier level, like they can only know 3 Basic Black Magick spells, and also 3 Advanced)? Then, when they hit the next tier, they can choose to either gain access to a new School of Magick, or "level up" one of their existing Tiers to Advanced. Also, because of their "jack-of-all-trades" nature, They can only go up to the Advanced Tier when learning spells (as such, they can never learn any of the -Ga of -Ja spells).

What do you think?

^Alright, but after Advanced tier should probably be when they start getting useful abilities like Doublecast to keep them from being Crutch Characters.

Sorry if I missed mention of this, but what about Time Magick?

Time Magick will be exclusive to the Time Mages, which are a planned Prestige Class and there is a Time Magick spell list in the works, mostly.

I was going to suggest something more simple for the Red Magic: Original FF style, where the Red Mages have access to both black and white (and in this case, green) magic but not to all of the tiers. Your system sounds better to me.

So yeah, I temporarily forgot I was working on this. =P

College kind of got in the way, so I've been somewhat busy. I'll see if I can't squeeze an update in this weekend.

We're also getting closer to the point where Test-playing is viable, so if you're interested in putting a test-play campaign together then let me know. In particular, let me know what kind of character you want to play in terms of Race, Job (Including Advanced, if you're shooting for it, most of the FFTA/2 advanced jobs are a going to make it to the final game), and equipment, this way I can update those required bits sooner so we can get to playing. As for what we'll be playing the game on. I kind of want to use Maptool (Google it), but I don't know If I can easily put together a, you know, map with it.

Oh, oh, meesa wants to try. *excitement*

But I can't use Maptools, it doesn't connect to servers or hosts because the dorms where I'm living have an stupid restricting internet policy. So, if you're finally going to use Maptools, count me out. If not, I think a Bangaa Soldier (Gladiator, if I get that far) would do the trick.

Well Monkey Feathers. I don't know what else we'd be playing on then. Let me look around here, then and see what's available.

Also, I'll get to work on the Soldier job ASAP.

Well, if it's not web/instant messenger/IRC based, I don't think it's going to work. Forget about me if you're having too much trouble with that, for the sake of playtesting.

Wait a second. How can your internet security block a feature of a program? That's like blocking the chat-box on an MMO. Doesn't make sense to me.

Well, they block the network, so the parts of any application that require the use of the network and are not accepted by the firewall just don't work. Offline they work with no problems, but I don't know if that would be of any use in this case.
