The tulips and daffodils I planted last fall are just starting to poke little nubs through the defrosting soil. I'm excited! Seems like forever ago I was digging out that spot for new flowers.

There will be irises and daylilies too, but they'll come up later. I hope the irises survived. I bought some expensive hybrids.

Ooh. Snap a pic when they bloom.

The weather is turning nice thankfully here in Omaha.

We switched music systems at the store where I work recently from Sirius XM and like three painfully bland stations the owner actually allowed us to play to a platform where we get a few playlists that upper management can directly edit what's on the playlist. I recently realized "hey, there's a lot of great songs from my mid-teens through mid-20s on this playlist". And then I realized it's because I'm old enough to be exactly who they're marketing at through nostalgia.

Yeah, us 80's kids are now old enough that WE are the "nostalgia market".

Feeling the old lady vibes lately. My mom just gave me a set of fine china which belonged to my great-grandmother.

That cliche of boomers trying to foist ugly china on their kids... well, I like this pattern. It suits my dining room. And bone china is thin and light. It packs small, unlike the heavy stoneware currently collecting dust in my cabinet.

I'm a sucker for cut crystal, too. Sparkly!

Scion: At least it's decent dishes. Though I prefer stoneware.

Yeah feeling my age a wee bit. Though I was shocked to find I can apparently pass for a late 20's fella. I blew minds when I told them to add a full decade plus to that.

Edit: Taira, you cannot tell anyone about this, or I will bury you in Chihuahua snuggles with a blanket.

One of my manga guilty pleasures is getting an anime adaption.

Lol. Yeah it's great but man being an amateur rider is really hard on your backside and thighs. Builds pretty powerful leg and lower back muscles though.

For the first time when I went looking for vaccination appointments, there were appointments available!

There were 15k people ahead of me for 3.5k appointments, but it's more encouraging than seeing "there are no appointments available" every time I open the page.

Deer ate my tulips.

They'll probably recover, and I sprayed them with deer repellent (nasty stuff!), but it's still irritating. I thought that was the advantage of lily-family plants: they're toxic so animals leave them alone.

Oddly, they didn't touch the daffodils.

scion: I find that amusing and the seemingly deadpan tone made me chuckle a bit. An older lady I used to work with would often stop to chat with me about her battles with the bunnies denuding her mini trees and eating her flowers.

Battles is right! I used to have hostas, which are easygoing shade plants, except that deer love them. I got tired of them being mowed down to stalks before they could bloom, and bought deer repellent. But you have to spray it on the plants after every rain, and it's just so foul.

It won't be as bad with tulips. Once they're done blooming, I won't mind if deer eat the leaves.

You mentioned hostas and I astrally projected back to my grandmother explaining her garden to me. What hostas are was like the only thing I actually picked up from that, but it was something she was proud of.

scion: Geeze. Urban deer can be right terrors on the garden apparently. I thought the rabbit scourge was bad. My mother-in-law does some noted gardening of daylilies and critters chomp on them all the time. They have a dog who patrols their backyard where she does her serious growing so that helps. The former co-worker put small protective cages around her plants until they bloomed and had fewer problems at that point.

My week sucks. I started Saturday with an extra shift followed by a last-minute call for a 12-hour shift to cover my site so the normal guard could be sent to cover another with 3 hours of sleep. Followed by today where one of my crew completely flipped his shit for no discernable reason.
