I wouldn't go so far as to call the story shocking. I found that the plot encountered a lot of unnecessary resistance, and the characters were static.
That said, I am glad your brother's alright. I hope he learned proper conduct.

I have an inherit pun penalty, I didn't take the right feats. 
My brothers got that beat. When he was around 3 or 4 he turned off a lamp in a rather creative way. It involved scissors and a near house fire.
